Secret Love
Edwards Tommy Lyrics

That lived within the heart of me
All too soon my secret love
Became impatient to be free
So I told a friendly star
The way that dreamers often do
Just how wonderful you are
Now I shout it from the highest hills
Even told the golden daffodils
At last my heart's an open door
And my secret love's no secret anymore
The lyrics of Tommy Edwards' "Secret Love" speaks of a love that was once hidden but eventually revealed. It depicts the story of someone who had strong feelings for someone else but was afraid to reveal it. This secret love consumed the singer and eventually became too much to keep inside. The singer shares the secret with a "friendly star" as dreamers do, revealing just how wonderful the love interest is and how deeply in love the singer is.
It is a beautiful representation of the struggle to express emotions, especially when the feelings are intense and hard to communicate. The lyrics beautifully capture the sense of liberation that comes with revealing one's feelings and being able to shout it from the highest hills, making it known to all. The song talks about the joy of letting go and finally being able to pour out one's heart. It's about finding the courage to be vulnerable and taking a chance on love, even if it means the possibility of getting hurt.
Overall, Edwards' "Secret Love" is a timeless classic that perfectly encapsulates the feelings of falling in love and the relief and freedom that comes with being able to express these emotions openly.

Though most of us will always associate this lovely Oscar-winning standard with Doris, I think we must acknowledge that Tommy's version, also, is beautiful. I have to believe that Calamity Jane herself felt this way, too. Tommy was an extraordinary talent, whom we lost much too soon.
