After signing a contract with the Atlantic Records label Lava Records in 1994, his first major-label album, Honor Among Thieves, was issued in 1995. His second album, Misguided Roses, spawned I'll Be, a major single in 1998. Two more albums (Messenger and Far from Over) followed, but at the end of 2001, he split from Lava. In 2003 he released a collection of acoustic versions of songs both old and new called The Austin Sessions via ATC Records, a Nashville-based independent record label (at which McCain was the first artist signed following its creation in 2001). Mid-2004 saw the arrival of his first studio album in three years, entitled Scream & Whisper, which was released on another indie label, DRT Entertainment.
He has released two DVDs to date. The first was through ATC records in late 2002, called Mile Marker: Songs and Stories from the Acoustic Highway, and it consisted of interviews, live performances, and other material. The other was in late 2004, Tinsel & Tap Shoes. It was his first live concert DVD, recorded at The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A new CD was released in April, 2006 titled, Lost in America. Edwin recently signed a contract with Vanguard Records. This album (#8) is said to be a true "rock 'n roll" collection.

Day WIll Never Come
Edwin McCain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
As the winter sunshine fades to bring you down
A fumble in the dark, it's a journey on the night train
A friendship never grows to bring you down
[Chorus:]
Everybody's waiting for God to fall out of the skies
Is it all in the stars tonight
That day will never come
A sentimental dream, my feelings based on instinct
As I curl up and sleep on the floor
If there's danger ahead that's keeping you waiting
And you know you've had enough when the morning comes
[Chorus]
Is it all in the stars tonight
Is it all in your mind
'Cause I don't really know
The song Day Will Never Come by Edwin McCain is a thought-provoking track that explores the human condition and the search for meaning in life. The opening line, "the smile on your face could sacrifice salvation," sets the tone for the rest of the song. This line implies that sometimes we sacrifice our long-term well-being for short-term happiness. We may try to fill the void in our lives with material possessions or temporary pleasures, but it will never bring us true happiness, as the day will never come.
As the song progresses, it delves into the idea that we are all waiting for something to happen, like waiting for "God to fall out of the skies." There may be moments when we believe that everything is predetermined and that our fate is already written in the stars. However, the song suggests that we have the power to change our destiny and that our future is not predetermined.
The chorus repeats the line "Is it all in your mind," emphasizing that sometimes our own thoughts and perceptions dictate our outlook on life. We may create our own obstacles and limitations in our minds that prevent us from experiencing true joy and fulfillment. The song concludes with the repeated line, "that day will never come," suggesting that the day of enlightenment or salvation is an illusion and that true happiness can only be found within ourselves.
