After signing a contract with the Atlantic Records label Lava Records in 1994, his first major-label album, Honor Among Thieves, was issued in 1995. His second album, Misguided Roses, spawned I'll Be, a major single in 1998. Two more albums (Messenger and Far from Over) followed, but at the end of 2001, he split from Lava. In 2003 he released a collection of acoustic versions of songs both old and new called The Austin Sessions via ATC Records, a Nashville-based independent record label (at which McCain was the first artist signed following its creation in 2001). Mid-2004 saw the arrival of his first studio album in three years, entitled Scream & Whisper, which was released on another indie label, DRT Entertainment.
He has released two DVDs to date. The first was through ATC records in late 2002, called Mile Marker: Songs and Stories from the Acoustic Highway, and it consisted of interviews, live performances, and other material. The other was in late 2004, Tinsel & Tap Shoes. It was his first live concert DVD, recorded at The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A new CD was released in April, 2006 titled, Lost in America. Edwin recently signed a contract with Vanguard Records. This album (#8) is said to be a true "rock 'n roll" collection.

Truly Believe
Edwin McCain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Cause I didn't need saving.
I wasn't drowning,
I was just waving.
I apologize,
For the misunderstanding.
But I wasn't falling,
I was just landing.
Just getting started.
I'm not gonna be some,
Dearly departed.
I wouldn't shatter,
To the touch.
Baby you worry,
A little too much.
If you let me be,
Who I'm becoming,
Stop seeing me,
As everything I've been.
You could be free,
From the wondering.
Let me give you something to,
Truly believe in.
If I'm guilty,
It's not murder,
But is killing time,
So unkind?
And we take this struggle,
Further and further.
Only to find,
Oh no finish lines.
If you let me be,
Who I am becoming.
Stop seeing me,
As everything I've been.
You could be free,
From the wondering.
Let me give you something to,
Truly believe in.
We can chose to fight the war,
Or find the little things.
There's music in the notes,
It's in the space between.
If you let me be,
Who I'm becoming.
Stop seeing me,
As everything I've been.
You could be free,
From the wondering.
Let me give you something to,
Truly believe in forgiveness.
I truly believe,
We can begin again.
I truly believe,
I can fix this.
Let me give you something
to,
Truly believe in.
In "Truly Believe" by Edwin McCain, the singer is reassuring someone that they don't need to save him. He was never drowning, just waving. This can be interpreted as the singer being self-sufficient and not in need of help from others. He does, however, apologize for the misunderstanding and acknowledges that the other person cares about him.
The song's chorus urges the listener to let the singer be who he is becoming, and to stop seeing him as everything he's been. He promises to give the other person something to truly believe in. The second verse explores the idea of guilt and the ways in which people struggle to move forward. The bridge suggests that finding happiness can come from focusing on little things and appreciating the space between the notes in music.
Overall, the song encourages growth and forgiveness. The singer is confident in his ability to fix things and begin again. The song has a positive and optimistic message about personal growth and moving forward.
