my name is egil olsen. i am a singer / songwriter. i make pretty little songs about the hard knock life as a wannabe superstar, love and hope and dreams. i had a solo/band thing called uncle's institution, but after a soul searching road trip on the west coast of the united states, i found the solo artist within; egil olsen.
after a long time in hibernation, insecurity and darkness, egil olsen packed his suitcase to fulfill a dream. for five weeks, in a car, alone with the guitar, egil olsen visited several motels across california and ended up playing in san francisco, santa cruz and hollywood. lyrics and melodies were born and what was to become the solo artist; egil olsen, and the album “i am a singer / songwriter” had begun.
egil olsen found inspiration in the desperate souls of hollywood and gained belief in being an artist. egil olsen returned to his home in norway, got a dog, moved from the western country sides of norway to the dirty streets of oslo where the album was recorded in a home recording studio and partly in propeller music division.
never before has egil olsen made such contact with his audience as now. the focus is on the lyrics and the melody with a very simple, near and naked expression both live and on tape. the music is warm, pretty and ever-green with personal lyrics with elements of both humor and darkness.
egil olsen has, besides made the music, also done the artwork, website and made music videos. the video to the song singer / songwriter, done with director janic heen, was awarded the best norwegian music video at the short film festival in grimstad."
