Blume
Einstürzende Neubauten Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

:: chrysantemum ::

for you I'm a chrysantemum
supernova, urgent star

:: astera compositae ::

for you i'll be a dandelion
a thousand flowerettes in the sky
or just a drop in the ocean

if you know my name
don't speak it out
it holds a power - as before

:: liliacea ::

a lily of the valley
a flower of saron

:: helianthus annus ::

for you i even be a sunflower
do you hear my enlightening laughter?
another reason to cut off an ear

you know my name, do you not?
don't say it
for it is sacred, immovable - frozen

:: rosa, anemone et nymphea alba ::

i'll even be a waterlily,
a marygold, a rose
or a little thistle

:: euphorbia ::

a blue dahlia, a black tulip
that's where opinions differ
the scholars disagree

my name, should you know it

remains unspeakable
and is spoken - malediction

Overall Meaning

The song "Blume" by Einstürzende Neubauten is a poetic masterpiece where the singer expresses his willingness to transform into different flowers and plants to please a loved one. The lyrics are fluid, and it's as though the singer is trying to convince the listener that he's willing to become anything for her, even if it means shedding his identity. The first stanza sees the singer liken himself to a chrysanthemum, supernova, or an urgent star, indicating his desire to stand out and be noticed by his lover. He's essentially saying that his love for her burns brightly, even to the point of exploding into a supernova.

The second stanza conveys the message that the singer is willing to become anything in the world for his lover. He doesn't care about the size of his identity as long as she notices him. He says he'll be a dandelion with thousands of petals in the sky or just a drop in the ocean. He urges the listener not to say his name out loud, as it holds immense power that could ruin everything. The third stanza has the singer comparing himself to a lily of the valley or a flower of Saron, emphasizing his willingness to change and become anything his lover desires.

Throughout the song, the singer tells his lover that his name is sacred and should never be spoken out loud. The fact that he mentions his name adds an air of mystery to the song, reinforcing the idea that he's willing to become anything she wants, even shedding his identity in the process. Overall, Blume is a beautiful song that is open to a wide range of interpretations.

Check out "subterranean world" by die hert, it's both of them singing (again) (stunning stuff), she released just two solo albums (dirty peal) and (sex o'clock) and sung on two albums for mick harvey (intoxicated man) and (pink elephants) all worth indulging in
