The band began as an after-church endeavor when the DuPrees were young. The band was named Moss Eisley, after the Star Wars city Mos Eisley, but for legal reasons the "Moss" was dropped officially when they announced their tour opening for Coldplay. Now they're all grown up and have both headlined and opened for bands such as (but not limited to): Taking Back Sunday, Coldplay, Switchfoot, Snow Patrol, Brand New, Vedera, MUTEMATH, The Myriad, Hot Hot Heat and New Found Glory, and Say Anything, in which Sherri DuPree married lead singer Max Bemis. Featuring ethereal, soaring harmonies and dreamy imagery, Eisley has a sound all their own. They are, however, not without comparison or influence. Their sound echoes to dream pop and artists such as Cocteau Twins or Mazzy Star and to contemporary acts such as Denali.
I Wasn't Prepared
Eisley Lyrics

I sit here and wonder about you
And how the pollen fell
All around your face in strange yellow patterns
But, I wasn't prepared for this
I, I wasn't prepared for this, I,
When the morning came
And That's when I spoke the words
To have them trace your face for me in pollen
But
I wasn't prepared for this, I,
I wasn't prepared for this,I,
Come, Come, back to me my, my darling
Come, Come, back to me my, my darling
I wasn't prepared for this, I,
I wasn't prepared for this, I,
When the day is blue
I sit here and wonder about you
The lyrics to Eisley’s “I Wasn’t Prepared” discuss the feeling of being caught off guard by a sudden and unexpected event. The song opens with the singer contemplating a memory of someone they knew and loved. They recall a particular moment when the person had pollen around their face in strange yellow patterns. While the memory is bittersweet and brings about feelings of longing and nostalgia, the singer expresses that they were not prepared for the emotions that would come with the memory.
As the song progresses, the singer speaks about how they were caught off guard by unexpected events that followed the memory. They describe how when they woke up, bees wrapped themselves around them, and they spoke words to have the bees trace the loved one’s face in pollen. This action represents a desperate attempt to hold onto the memory of the loved one, and the pollen acts as a physical manifestation of that longing and desire. The singer then repeats the phrase “I wasn’t prepared for this” multiple times, emphasizing their feeling of being caught off guard by emotions they were not ready to face.
Overall, Eisley’s “I Wasn’t Prepared” is a melancholic and introspective song that delves into the pain and confusion of unexpected emotions. The lyrics convey a sense of being lost and unsure of how to navigate the feelings that come with memories of loved ones.

Oh, when the day is blue
When I feel sad and lonely,
I sit here and wonder about you
I think about you and our memories together,
And how the pollen fell
I remember the day when the pollen was falling,
All around your face in strange yellow patterns
And how the pollen covered your face with beautiful yellow patterns,
But, I wasn't prepared for this
But I didn't expect to feel so overwhelmed with emotions,
I, I wasn't prepared for this, I,

The next day,
The bees flew down and wrapped themselves around me
I felt like nature was embracing me,

And that's when I spoke my deepest feelings,
To have them trace your face for me in pollen
I wished for the bees to reveal your face to me through the pollen,
But
However,
I wasn't prepared for this, I,
I still wasn't ready for the emotions that flooded me,
I wasn't prepared for this, I,
I wasn't ready for this situation at all,
Come, Come, back to me my, my darling

When the day is blue
When I'm feeling sad and alone,

I can't help but think about you and what could have been,
