The band began as an after-church endeavor when the DuPrees were young. The band was named Moss Eisley, after the Star Wars city Mos Eisley, but for legal reasons the "Moss" was dropped officially when they announced their tour opening for Coldplay. Now they're all grown up and have both headlined and opened for bands such as (but not limited to): Taking Back Sunday, Coldplay, Switchfoot, Snow Patrol, Brand New, Vedera, MUTEMATH, The Myriad, Hot Hot Heat and New Found Glory, and Say Anything, in which Sherri DuPree married lead singer Max Bemis. Featuring ethereal, soaring harmonies and dreamy imagery, Eisley has a sound all their own. They are, however, not without comparison or influence. Their sound echoes to dream pop and artists such as Cocteau Twins or Mazzy Star and to contemporary acts such as Denali.

All in all, I was a bright young girl with a sound
I met you on the train tracks, the beams that held up
My spine now it's up to me to find the photo
I had of her when I was five years old
And my hair was beautifully white
Sifting down, pushed through squares
You, hey you there, can you save my soul
I caught your eye and with it you let me know
You won't bury me, you're the part that makes me whole
You, hey you there, will you save my soul
Now, I'm here and I'm not backing down
I'm here, you're here and we're not backing down
We wait and we breathe and I'll start singing
'two headed boy' as you fall asleep, as you fall asleep
You, hey you there, can you save my soul
I caught your eye and with it you let me know
You won't bury me, you're the part that makes me whole
You, hey you there, can you save my soul
Swinging from the background
Swelling from beneath
What was in the darkness, blooming under me
Rising from the ashes
Waking all the dead
Tearing through the sadness ringing through my head
You, hey you there, can you save my soul
I caught your eye and with it you let me know
You won't bury me, you're the part that makes me whole
You, hey you there, can you save my soul
The song ‘Save My Soul’ by Eisley talks about a woman who was once vibrant, wearing a dress and dance shoes, and a bright girl with a sound. She met someone while on the train tracks, who made her feel alive again.
The line “the beams that held up my spine” is a metaphor for this person being the support system for the woman. However, she needs to find a photo of herself that reminds her of her pure, childlike innocence.
The chorus “can you save my soul” is a plea for help, a request for someone to guide her through the darkness and help her regain the light in her life. The woman is not willing to give up, and this person is the one who makes her feel whole again.
In the later verses, the woman is determined to not back down and starts singing “two-headed boy” (a song by Neutral Milk Hotel), as the person falls asleep. The background is swinging, swelling and blooming, and the woman feels a sense of awakening as she rises from the ashes and wakes the dead.
In summary, the song ‘Save My Soul’ is about a woman who meets a person who helps her find the light in her life again. She feels alive, and this person makes her feel whole. The song is a plea for help and a promise to never give up.
