The band began as an after-church endeavor when the DuPrees were young. The band was named Moss Eisley, after the Star Wars city Mos Eisley, but for legal reasons the "Moss" was dropped officially when they announced their tour opening for Coldplay. Now they're all grown up and have both headlined and opened for bands such as (but not limited to): Taking Back Sunday, Coldplay, Switchfoot, Snow Patrol, Brand New, Vedera, MUTEMATH, The Myriad, Hot Hot Heat and New Found Glory, and Say Anything, in which Sherri DuPree married lead singer Max Bemis. Featuring ethereal, soaring harmonies and dreamy imagery, Eisley has a sound all their own. They are, however, not without comparison or influence. Their sound echoes to dream pop and artists such as Cocteau Twins or Mazzy Star and to contemporary acts such as Denali.

Passing by lit windows the people inside they wave from the glow
Chimney smoke billowing
Snowflakes on my lashes
Oh the starry night
I was walking and singing this song
La la la la la la la la la
Walking home with the snow it is falling down
Passing by lit windows the people inside they wave from the glow
Chimney smoke billowing
Snowflakes on my lashes
Oh the starry night
I was walking and singing this song
Sing along
La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la
It's that day again
It's that time of year
With our smiling faces
We will sing with cheer
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
The lyrics to Eisley's “Winter Song” paint a peaceful, almost dream-like picture of walking home in the snow. The opening lines set the scene for the rest of the song; the singer is walking home as snow falls around them. They pass by homes with lit windows, where people wave from inside. The chimney smoke billows in the cold air, and snowflakes land on the singer's eyelashes. The wintry sky is lit up with stars, and the singer is lost in thought as they walk and sing this song. The “la la la” refrain adds to the dreamy feel of the song, and the repetition creates a sense of continuity and comfort.
The second stanza is more upbeat and brings in a sense of holiday cheer. The singer notes that “It’s that day again/It’s that time of year,” referring to the winter season and likely a holiday such as Christmas. They hope to sing with cheer and share in smiling faces with those around them, and the song ends on a joyful note with one final “la la la” refrain.
Overall, “Winter Song” is a wistful and peaceful ode to the beauty of the season, with the imagery and melody combining to create a comforting and nostalgic experience.
