Elba Ramalho was born in the rural area of Conceição, in Vale do Piancó. In 1962, the family moved to the city of Campina Grande, also in Paraíba. Her father became the owner of the local theater. Daughter of a musician, she became interested in music still as a teenager.
In 1966, she participated, for the first time, in a performance on stage, in the Choir of the Fundação Artística e Cultural Manuel Bandeira, of which she was a member, with "Evocação do Recife". The Manuel Bandeira and Cecília Meireles Talking Choirs gained fame and started to be seen all over the Northeast, and Elba, who made her first presentation on stage together with them, soon became the highlight in the presentations. She starred in the poetic montages of Castro Alves, Thiago de Mello, Lindolfo Bell, Carlos Pena Filho and Figueiredo Agra. He participated in the montages of the plays "Ministro do Supremo" and "Diálogo das Carmelitas."
In 1968, while attending college of Economics and Sociology at the Federal University of Paraíba, she formed the ensemble As Brasas, in which she acted as drummer, which later became a theater group. However, Elba never stopped singing, and performed in several festivals throughout the Northeast.
In 1979, she released her first album, "Ave de Prata", and since then she has consolidated her position as one of the main Brazilian singers in activity. On her father's side, she is a cousin of fellow singer Zé Ramalho.
She has two Latin Grammys for her albums: Qual o Assunto Que Mais Lhe importa?, released in 2008, and Balaio de Amor, 2009, in the category Best Brazilian Roots Album: Regional and Tropical. In over 35 years of career, Elba Ramalho has sold more than 10 million albums. She received from the Art Critics Association of São Paulo the award "Best Show of the Year" on two occasions: in 1989 for the show Popular Brasileira and in 1996 for the show Leão do Norte.
Pisa na fulô

Não maltrate o meu amor
Pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô
Não maltrate o meu amor
Um dia desse
Eu fui dançar lá em Pedreira
Gostei da brincadeira
Zé Caxangá era o tocador
Mas só tocava pisa na fulô
Pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô
Não maltrate o meu amor
Pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô
Não maltrate o meu amor
Eu vi menina
Que nem tinha doze anos
Agarrar seu par
Também sair dançando
Satisfeita e dizendo
“Meu amor, ai como é gostoso o pisa no fulô”
Pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô
Não maltrate o meu amor
Pisa na fulô, pisa, pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô
Não maltrate o meu amor
Pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô
Não maltrate o meu amor
Pisa na fulô, pisa, pisa na fulô, pisa na fulô
Não maltrate o meu amor
Tenho pena de quem chora
De quem chora tenho dó
Quando o choro de quem chora
Não é choro, é chororô
Tenho pena de quem chora
De quem chora tenho dó
Quando o choro de quem chora
Não é choro, é chororô
Quando uma pessoa chora seu choro
Baixinho
De lágrima a correr pelo cantinho de olhar
Não se pode duvidar da razão daquela dor
Isso pode atrapalhar
Sentindo seja o que for
No meu roçado
Eu trabalhava todo dia
Mas no meu rancho
Eu tinha tudo o que queria
Lá se dançava quase toda quinta-feira
Sanfona não faltava
E tome xote a noite inteira
O xote é bom
De se dançar
A gente gruda
Na cabloca sem soltar
Um passo lá
Um outro cá
Enquanto o fole tá tocando
'Tá gemendo, 'tá chorando
'Tá fungando, reclamando sem parar
Lá no meu pé de serra
Deixei ficar meu coração
Ai que saudades tenho
Eu vou voltar pro meu sertão
No meu roçado
Eu trabalhava todo dia
Mas no meu rancho
Eu tinha tudo o que queria
Lá se dançava quase toda quinta-feira
Sanfona não faltava
E tome xote a noite inteira
O xote é bom
De se dançar
A gente gruda
Na cabloca sem soltar
Um passo lá
Um outro cá
Enquanto o fole tá tocando
'Tá gemendo, 'tá chorando
'Tá fungando, reclamando sem parar
The song Pisa Na Fulô/Chororô/Pé De Serra by Elba Ramalho is a medley of three different traditional Brazilian music styles. The first part, Pisa Na Fulô, is a playful and upbeat forró song that talks about not mistreating one's love. The second part, Chororô, is a melancholic and emotional song about the different types of crying, how it can vary in intensity, and the sympathy one should have for a person crying in distress. The final part, Pé De Serra, is a nostalgic and joyful tribute to rural life, specifically the singer's memories of her home in the Serra do Mar mountain range where they would dance to the Sanfona, a type of accordion common in Brazilian forró music.
The message of the song overall is one of appreciation for Brazilian culture and a desire to preserve and celebrate it. The first part, Pisa Na Fulô, is a call to enjoy and appreciate the simple pleasures in life, like dancing to music. The second part, Chororô, emphasizes the importance of empathy and sympathy for those who are suffering, which is a common theme in Brazilian culture. Finally, the third part, Pé De Serra, is a celebration of Brazilian rural culture and a desire to return to its roots.

In my field
Eu trabalhava todo dia
I worked every day
Mas no meu rancho
But in my shack
Eu tinha tudo o que queria
I had everything I wanted
Lá se dançava quase toda quinta-feira
We danced there almost every Thursday
Sanfona não faltava
Accordion was always there
E tome xote a noite inteira
And we danced the whole night with xote
O xote é bom
Xote is good

To dance

We stick together
Na cabloca sem soltar
On the girl without letting go
Um passo lá
A step there
Um outro cá
Another here
Enquanto o fole tá tocando
While the accordion is playing
Está gemendo, está chorando
It's moaning, it's crying
Está fungando, reclamando sem parar
It's sniffling, complaining non-stop
