Something About You
Elderbrook Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Making silhouettes of us
Way back when we had our paradise
We're staying up all through the night
Smoking, drinking, getting high
I was wrong and I apologize
Where did you go? What can I do?
But I need you here to solve them
Where did you go? What should I say?
I hope that I can make a change 'cause
There's something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was drowning in the moment
And now I'm holding onto you
There's something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was drowning in the moment
And now I'm holding onto you
There's something 'bout you
That keeps picking me up when I'm low
There's something 'bout you
That keeps picking me up when I'm low
I miss the company we had
Back when I was still on track
Now I'm making my own paradise
But now the drink is tasting strange
And the high isn't the same
I'm still wrong and I apologize
Where did you go? What can I do?
I'm working on my problems
But I need you here to solve them
Where did you go? What should I say?
I hope that I can make a change 'cause
There's something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was drowning in the moment
And now I'm holding onto you
There's something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was drowning in the moment
And now I'm holding onto you
There's something 'bout you
That keeps picking me up when I'm low
There's something 'bout you
That keeps picking me up when I'm low
There's something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was drowning in the moment
And now I'm holding onto you
Ooh, oh, holding onto you
Oh, holding onto you
Oh, holding onto you
There's something 'bout you
That keeps picking me up when I'm low
(And I've been falling)
There's something 'bout you
That keeps picking me up when I'm low
(And I've been falling)
There's something 'bout you
Elderbrook's "Something About You" is a reflective piece about a relationship that has ended, and the singer's struggle to move on. He misses the times they had together, the touch of the morning sun on their skin, and the picture they made back then. But now, the singer is consuming alcohol and drugs to get through the night, to forget the pain or the memory of the loss of that relationship. However, it seems that the singer is no longer happy with this lifestyle, and craves a return to the relationship, looking for that something or someone to keep him sober.
The chorus repeats the phrase "there's something 'bout you" several times, emphasizing the singer's need for the other person. He recognizes that this person has a positive impact on him and can lift him when he is down. He apologizes for his past wrongdoings, acknowledging that he has made mistakes in the relationship. He is aware that he needs the other person to help him work through his issues and face the challenges that life throws at him.
The song has a somber tone, and the use of repetition in the chorus reinforces the singer's desperation for the other person to return. These lyrics reflect universal emotions of longing and regret, as well as the struggle to find a sense of stability and happiness after losing a loved one.

I first heard Elderbrook - Woman then found this track…
I’m 33, been on and off drugs and alcohol since age 17… started my journey of sobriety November 6, 2022….dancing and exercise help so much. Also knowing that you aren’t alone, that’s a huge help.
I’m in my apartment drinking coffee this morning after a sleepless night of insomnia… This song came on and i started dancing and started crying so hard. I think that’s a big emotional release of past trauma.
Whoever you are, whatever you are going through, never be afraid to show your release your emotion and to let things flow.
You aren’t alone. I got you. We got you.

My favorite part is the flex that they (we) all do first, and what it could mean.
Do we have to display strength before we can expose vulnerability?
Is it saying I have the strength to display vulnerability?
Is it commentary that even in our vulnerability we're expected to display strength.
And then when looking at how each person displays it to another or to the crowd it could have an entirely different meaning.
Is it letting go of that display if strength?
Maybe it's saying I'm here to join you so you don't have to hold it yourself.
Or maybe it's saying 'you've been strong long enough. I've got it now.'
So much. It could say so much. It it could mean so little. But no matter what; it's beautiful. This whole video is beautiful.

The Men's suicide prevention hotline and programs needs to use/show this song and video in their campaigns. As a struggling man with depression and anxiety, this spoke to me on another level. Hands down one of the most incredible music videos I've ever seen.

Too right.

I’m so glad that this spoke to you. I tried to show it to a mate with depression and he was completely bamboozled by it and didn’t understand the symbology and meaning at all.

They all know the dance because they all know the sadness and pain. They don't need to practice the dance because they already know it instinctively. It's a really powerful music video
