Ticket to the Moon
Electric-Light-Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Remember the good old 1980's
When things were so uncomplicated
I wish I could go back there again
And everything could be the same

I've got a ticket to the moon
I'll be leaving here any day soon
Yeah, I've got a ticket to the moon
But I'd rather see the sunrise, in your eyes

Got a ticket to the moon
I'll be rising high above the earth so soon
And the tears I cry might turn into the rain
That gently falls upon your window
You'll never know

Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon

Fly, fly through a troubled sky
Up to a new world shining bright, oh oh

Flying high above
Soaring madly through the mysteries that come
Wondering sadly if the ways that led me here
Could turn around and I would see you there
Standing there (I would see you there)

Ticket to the moon
Flight leaves here today from Satellite 2
As the minutes go by, what shall I do
I paid the fare, what more can I say?
It's just one way

Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon

Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon

Ticket to the moon
Ticket to the moon

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Electric Light Orchestra's song 'Ticket To The Moon' carry a sense of nostalgia and a longing to return to simpler times. The opening lines reminisce on the good old days of the 1980s when things were straightforward and uncomplicated. The singer expresses a desire to go back to that time when everything could be the same. The chorus then reveals that the singer has a ticket to the moon and will be leaving soon. However, they would rather witness the sunrise in their loved one's eyes than go on this adventure.

The verses following the chorus depict the singer flying high above, soaring madly through the mysteries that come, and wondering if the ways that led them here could bring them back to their loved one. The song's overarching theme is the conflict between the desire to escape to a new world and the desire to stay with loved ones. The ambiguous ending of the song leaves the listeners wondering if the singer chose to board the flight to the moon or stayed behind with their loved one.

Бальзам на душу, самый обалденный медляк на всех советских дискотеках начала 80—х. Сердце сжимается от воспоминаний об ушедшей эпохе❤

Doesn't this lyric amaze you?
They know how we would feel about the thins to come. And the younger generations are completely lost anyway.
But do people even understand what's going on, or is it just stupid nostalgia for times that were obviously completely different and better?
They really have always told us enough and made it very clear.

@user-ju9me8gm8r

you aren't alone, bro
