Jungle
Electric Light Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was standing in the jungle, I was feeling alright
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
I was wondering in the darkness, in the middle of the night
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
The moon began to shine, I saw a clearing ahead
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
But what`s that going on, I think I`m outta my head
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm.

Chooka chooka hoo la ley
Looka looka koo la ley.

A hundred animals were gathered `round in the night
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
And they were singing out a lovely song under the pale moonlight
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
I stood and stared for quite a while
Then a lion sang to me and smiled:
"Come join us if you so desire."

Chooka chooka hoo la ley
Looka looka koo la ley.

I said now please explain the meaning of this song you sing
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
"Wondrous is our great blue ship
That sails around the might sun
And joy to everyone that rides along!"

Chooka chooka hoo la ley
Looka looka koo la ley.

And they danced!
Pretty soon I knew the tune and
We sat and sang under the moon
And the jungle rang in joyful harmony.

Chooka chooka hoo la ley
Looka looka koo la ley.
Chooka chooka hoo la ley
Looka looka koo la ley.

"Wondrous is our great blue ship

That sails around the might sun
And joy to everyone that rides along!"

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Electric Light Orchestra's song "Jungle" describe a thrilling and surreal experience of being lost in the jungle, stumbling upon a clearing, and finding oneself in the midst of a gathering of animals singing a beautiful song about their great blue ship sailing around the mighty sun, bringing joy to everyone who rides along. The lead singer reflects on his experience and the wonder of being part of this harmonious and joyful community.

The song seems to draw upon a mixture of themes, including adventure, transcendence, and a longing for a deeper connection with the natural world. The jungle itself represents the unknown and the wild, and the creatures within it are portrayed as a harmonious collective. The lyrics convey a sense of awe and wonder at the sight of this harmonious community, and the invitation to join in the singing and dancing feels like an invitation to join in this greater sense of connection and harmony.

Overall, "Jungle" is a whimsical and fantastical song, that invites listeners to lose themselves in an imaginary journey through a magical jungle and experience the joy of being part of a harmonious and awe-inspiring community.

I’m convinced there is not a single bad ELO song.

@cubnation

@inabbs, I agree. You buy an album and all the songs are super--no "filler" songs! 😊 ❤💛💙

@devolve42

They lived on a spaceship, how can you do bad songs when you live on a spaceship?

Honestly....how can anyone NOT enjoy such a fun little tune like this? 😄

@MilhojasEncuadernaciondiseno

Yo la escucho y alucino la escena, al final hay un timbre como que todo es un sueño

ELO es una banda super entretenida. sólo a un amargado podría no gustarle

@GizmoRose

Hidden within Out of the Blue is this little gem. Seriously one of the coolest and unknown things they did. Absolutely love the ending and how the music just disappears with the sound of an alarm

@NotMarkKnopfler

Yes... I interpret it as the alarm goes off, he wakes up, and it was all a dream!

@LockhartSpain

I grew up with this album, amongst others. This has always been one of my favourite tracks since childhood. The alarm only makes sense in the context of the album.
