The oblivion and ecstasy of crushing doom and high grade marijuana, a sonic aural trip far, far away from this world, where only cyclopean walls of crackling vintage tube amps in full overdrive and primal ritualistic beats can wash away all the filth and drudgery of everyday life. Their music can be described as Doom Metal. Their sound is a crushing behemoth of funeral march psychedelia. Violent, bleak and ritualistic.
Born in Dorset, England in 1993, in a quiet country town, initially they were the product of frustration, unemployment and excessive drug abuse. But through hallucinogenic experimentation and occult sciences they realized their true potential. A celebration of outre low brow art like Weird Tales, 70's horror and B-movies, head shop art, drug comix, italian pornohorror comics, Crepax, Lovecraft, Howard etc. etc...coupled with a morbid fascination in cults, witchcraft, freemasonry, biker culture, mysticism and ancient occult sciences and how these dark arts can be applied to music.
Their history actually starts in 1988 when Justin Oborn created a doom-influenced death metal band called Lord of Putrefaction. The above mentioned band released only several demos but it showed the unique talent of Justin Oborn in the art of creating heavy slow riffs. In 1992 Lord of Putrefaction disbanded and Justin Oborn started another band called Thy Grief Eternal which moved more towards the doom metal genre though still it had significant death metal influence. The music was more refined and mature. Then in 1993 Thy Grief Eternal was disbanded and the band Eternal was crated. This band played pure stoner doom though the quality can't even come close to the next and the last band in this history, Electric Wizard. Mark Greening left Ramesses to re-join the band in late 2012.

Witchcult Today
Electric Wizard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Thirteen dressed in black are here
Screaming, naked our altar
Kissed by the whi, now satans daughter
Our witchcult grows...
Black goat forms from dopesmoke
Higher, higher devils disciples
Nameless chants breed sorcery
Our witchcult grows...
Father, mother, our brethren your children
Black masses, black magic, with drugs
Our witchcult grows...
The lyrics of Electric Wizard's song Witchcult Today seem to be a call to worshippers of Satan or other dark supernatural powers. The words describe a gathering of thirteen people dressed in black who are screaming and naked around an altar. They have been initiated into a witchcult, having been "kissed by the whi" or possibly anointed with a white or light substance. The cult appears to be devoted to Baphomet, a pagan deity associated with Satanism, and the group bows to him in reverence. The lyrics describe the chants of the nameless disciples of the devil and their sorcery, indicating that they are performing magical rituals in order to gain power and influence.
The words of Witchcult Today are suggestive of Satanic or demonic worship, with references to black masses, black magic, and drugs. The song creates a dark and foreboding atmosphere, with its repetitive, almost hypnotic lyrics and heavy, distorted guitar riffs. The mood is one of intense emotion, with the idea of the witchcult growing stronger and more potent with each repetition of the chorus. The song could be interpreted as a statement on the dangers of cults and the lure of the supernatural, with its power to draw people in and inspire a dangerous sense of devotion.

Dunwich, Dunwich
Dunwich, Dunwich
Dunwich child
You know not your father's name
Dope numbs the pain
Ascend dark wooded hills to Kane
Your mother's witches
Burnt at the stake for sorcery
You were conceived
Upon the altar, rites obscene
Child of Dunwich, rise
You have your father's eyes
Child of Dunwich, rise
End the world that you despize
Dunwich child
Of whispered past now they'll learn
High on the hill
Black clouds gather, now they'll burn
Bay at the stars
"Why was I born at all?"
Hear voice of doom
From other worlds your father's call
Child of Dunwich, rise
You have your father's eyes
Child of Dunwich, rise
End the world that you despize
Dunwich, dunwich
Dunwich, dunwich

The thing i love about Electric Wizard is that the albums almost sound like one complete song, yet every track is still distinctly different from the former

Like watching a volcano spew lava, some blasts out, some oozes. the band I"m in also mixes songs together when we jam. one to the next with interesting interludes. Sometimes we come up with several songs in a row we've never played before.
