They released three albums during the '90s, with their debut Electronic selling over a million copies worldwide. However, the follow-up Raise the Pressure, despite debuting in the UK Top 10, was a commercial flop by comparison. The group's highest charting singles is 1992's Disappointed, which reached #6 in the UK. The band's biggest American hit was 1989's Getting Away With It which reached #38 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Twisted Tenderness was released in 1999 and again hit the UK Top 10. This third and final studio album was co-produced by influential New York club DJ and dance producer Arthur Baker, with whom Sumner had previously worked on New Order's 1983 hit Confusion, amongst other songs. Marr and Sumner remained the only official members of the band, but were joined by Doves Jimi Goodwin on bass and Black Grape drummer Ged Lynch.
In September 2006 the duo's work was compiled on the album Get The Message - The Best Of Electronic.

At the back of my mind, I think I'm winning
I was somebody falling for one who was not
Somebody tired of dreaming
Now its already dawning that this time I've got
Someone who won't leave me feeling...
Disappointed, once more
I think I love you, for sure
So you're not disappointing at all
Disenchanted, once more
Disillusioned, encore
I think I love you, for sure
So you're not disappointing at all
Listen, as you call my name
Just one syllable said, then spoken once again
From the sound of your voice, the promise you make
You're somebody I can believe in
Someone who won't leave me feeling...
Disappointed, once more
Disillusioned, encore
I think I love you, for sure
So you're not disappointing at all
Disenchanted, once more
Disillusioned, encore
I think I love you, for sure
So you're not disappointing at all
At the back of my head, I believe what you said
Dream...
Disappointed, once more
Disillusioned, encore
I think I love you, for sure
So you're not disappointing at all
Disenchanted, once more
Disillusioned, encore
I think I love you, for sure
So you're not disappointing at all
Disappointed...
The lyrics of "Disappointed" by Electronic convey the feeling of having had bad experiences in relationships in the past, but finding hope and comfort in a new relationship where one feels like they have finally found someone they can trust and love. The lyrics describe the singer's initial uncertainty about their new partner, stating that "at the back of [their] mind, [they] think [they're] winning," implying that they have reservations about opening themselves up to someone new. Despite this, the singer is clearly drawn to their partner, finding solace in the sound of their voice and the promises they make. The chorus repeats the line "disappointed, once more" as a way of acknowledging the past betrayals, but concludes with the statement that the new partner is "not disappointing at all."
Overall, the lyrics can be seen as a tale of hope and optimism in the face of past disappointments, as the singer finds the courage to open up and trust someone new. The repeated use of the word "encore" implies that the idea of being disappointed again is a recurring theme in the singer's life, further emphasizing the importance of finding a partner who can break this cycle of disillusionment.
