Please
Elefant Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Good times for a change
See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man
Turn bad

So please please please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time

Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want

Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time

Overall Meaning

The song "Please" by Elefant is a heartfelt plea to the universe from the perspective of someone who has faced many hardships in life. The opening verses acknowledge the reality of life's unfairness, with the singer expressing gratitude for the good times, but also acknowledging how easily our circumstances can shift and turn us into people we don't recognize. The chorus, with its repeated pleas to "let me get what I want," represents a desperate desire to break free from the limitations and challenges that have held the singer back for so long.

The second verse deepens this sense of longing and vulnerability, with the singer admitting that they haven't had a dream in a long time. This can be interpreted both literally, as a reference to the loss of the ability to dream, and metaphorically, as a symbol of being unable to imagine a better future. The line "see, the life I've had can make a good man bad" provides insight into what has led the singer to this point - a challenging past that has left them feeling defeated and hopeless.

Ultimately, "Please" is a song about hope and the power of perseverance to overcome even the most difficult circumstances. While the singer acknowledges the many obstacles in their path, they continue to plead for a chance to break free and find happiness. The repetition of the phrase "Lord knows, it would be the first time" at the end of the chorus reinforces the idea that this is a new beginning for the singer, who is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their dreams.

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid back when I had no worries, no stress, and when the only pain I felt was when I fell from my bike or playing with my homies. Now I’m battling depression, extreme anxiety, and I look back and wish I could back to those days as a kid. When I took peace of mind for granted..damn miss those days

I heard this for the first time as a little kid in this movie and recently a friend introduced me to The Smiths and this was one of the songs she played for me and my first reaction was "Oh yeah, that's that song from Sky High." She was only kind of disappointed in me
