Everything da… Read Full Bio ↴Elegacy is a power/progressive metal band from Italy.
Everything dates back to 1999, when second-year university students and former school-mates Massimo La Russa (guitar) and Constantin Terzago (keyboards), both from Turin, start up a project called Legacy. Talented drummer Naike Musso joins the band straight away, and vocalist Omar Vestri soon completes the line-up. Full of enthusiasm, ideas and inexperience, at the start of 2000 they record their first 5-track demo album, called Sometimes in Eternity. The demo is sent to the most important Italian magazines and gets remarkable reviews, being awarded Best Demo of the Month by the prestigious heading Metal Hammer in May 2000. Suitably encouraged, Legacy continue to write new material and decides that the time is right to start looking for a contract. In order to improve their chances of finding a label, at the start of 2001 Legacy call their friend bassist Edoardo Zambardi and record another demo album containing some of the new material written the previous year. The 6-track promo attracts the interest of many journalists, and through one of them, Beppe Diana, Legacy come into contact with Italian label Northwind.
The company’s management is willing to offer Legacy a contract, and the band starts working hard on writing new material and preparing a live show. In the meantime Edoardo is replaced by Gabriele Rosso on bass, while guitarist Danilo Bar from Firesuite also joins the band. Everything seems to be going smoothly, and the first half of 2002 sees Legacy playing live. Unfortunately, a short period of inactivity and personal problems for some band members force Naike and Gabriele first, then Omar and Paolo Angelillo (who replaced Naike on drums for a while) to go their separate ways.
The situation is critical, and with a contract signing looming and a studio recording session already scheduled, the guys have to roll up their sleeves and start looking for replacements. Through a contact provided by their label, Legacy hires singer Gianluigi Girardi (ex Paladine, Soul Takers, Winter Mist) and Max Lo Bue also comes onboard as a drummer. With Massimo agreeing to play both bass and guitar during the recording session, Legacy signs the contract and gets into New Sin Studios at the end of September 2003 to record their first full-length album “Impressions”. The band is obliged to change its name from Legacy to “Elegacy” as another group has the same name. At the beginning of 2004, before the release of “Impressions”, the group is completed by two newcomers: Ivano Gruarin on guitars, and Federico Malandrino on bass.
More than a man
Elegacy Lyrics

A cheerless will in every heart
Each feels the bliss destroyed at all
And mourns the change that came at last
More than just a simple dream, more than a hope
More than a saviour... for all Mankind
It's hard to be what they need to see
"Between distress and pleasure
My life's fading away
I've tried to raise the veil
That made our faith so weak, so frail"
"I've always tried to bear this burden
hunted thoughts repressed just one more time
the fire in my heart still burning
in the name of the Father I won't die!
Remember me, when I'll be crucified
There were times I couldn't hide
There were times when this was so drear
When my soul forgot its pride
And longed for one to set it free"
More than just a simple man, more than a name
More than the way to Eden for us all
It's hard to be what they need to see
One more time
"Between distress and pleasure
My life's fading away
I've tried to raise the veil
That made our faith so weak, so frail"
A fearful anguish in his eyes
Fixed strainly on the vacant air
Heavily bursts in long-drawn sighs
His panting breath, enchained by fear - I won't die
The ancient past is now closer again - Crucified
More than a man
They want to see a king
More than a dream
My God will pray because my life
Won't be spent in vain
I've tried to raise the veil
I've tried to raise the veil
And I believe in you
I won't die
And I believe in you
Solo - Bar, Terzago
Exhaling my last breath
I will rest in the sleep of death
Some weak whispers till the end
Then I'll lay on desert sand
Now I'm on my way
The sun's darkening once again
But I won't be back!
Idolized, Sanctified
My words still remain
Idolized, Sanctified...
Sacrificed, Crucified
In vain I've always tried
Sacrificed, Crucified...
The song "More Than a Man" by Elegacy is an emotionally charged and philosophical piece about the struggle to live up to the expectations of others, especially when those expectations are so high as to want the person to be more than human, to be a savior. The first verse speaks about someone's absence leaving a void, and how this change has destroyed bliss for those who are left behind. The next verse talks about living between distress and pleasure, how the singer's life is fading away, but how they keep trying to raise the veil of weakness that covers faith. The third verse is about the moments when the singer couldn't hide, when they were dreary and their soul longed for someone to set it free. The chorus repeats that the singer is more than just a man, more than a savior for all mankind, but that it's hard to be what they need to see one more time.
The song seems to be about the difficulty of reconciling one's own expectations and desires with the expectations and desires of others, especially when those expectations are so elevated that they become unattainable. The singer is struggling to deal with the weight of their own ideals and the pressure of other people's expectations, while trying to find a way to make sense of it all. The bridge expresses the singer’s beliefs that their efforts won't be spent in vain as they try to raise the veil of weak faith.
