Seit Der Himmel
Element of Crime Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The song "Seit Der Himmel" by Element of Crime portrays a state of complete emotional dependence on someone. The first verse depicts the singer sitting behind his house, smoking and blowing the smoke away towards where it forms a birdhouse. He plans for all the birds to be happy in the next winter, indicating his care for others. The second verse presents a picture of obsession with the object of his desire, leading to a complete halt in all other areas of his life. He sees the color of the person's eyes everywhere he looks, leading to his paralysis. The third verse shows the singer threatening a tree to say something positive about the person he desires. He wishes he had something of the person's to prove its strength and presence, portraying the depth of his longing. The last verse uses the metaphor of a discarded piece of wood, a piece of trash that the dog enjoys, to describe his current state of being, essentially occupying space outside the desired person's house.

The song's lyrics depict a state of emotional desperation and dependence on another person, to the extent that it causes paralysis and the inability to focus on anything else. The imagery used is both sarcastic and harsh, especially towards the self, as the singer is unable to move from a state of emotional stagnation. The song is powerful in its ability to capture the emotional state of being completely lost in love, without any ability to control or temper one's emotions.
