Square and Compass
Elitist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Awake
My eyes adjust to the sequence
Everything and everyone around me has been restored
I can finally see what's beyond the surface
Patterns and numbers laid in front of me
I now define them
I walk, i walk to the place where i found
Serenity and true divinity in my soul
I talk, i talk with scholars who shaped
In this world it's patterns that take control

Patterns and numbers laid in front of me
I now define them
Patterns and numbers laid in front of me
I now define them
In this world it's patterns that take control
In this world it's patterns that take control

Hold on this world is changing
Can i hold on
There's nothing left for me
Hold on this world is changing
Can i hold on there's nothing left for me

Through the unknown
I pave the way to what will be come

Through the unknown i pave the way to what will become
There's nothing left for me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Elitist's song Square and Compass seem to be about a personal awakening and realization of the patterns and control in the world. The singer describes their eyes adjusting to a sequence and being able to see beyond the surface, where they discover patterns and numbers that they can now define. They walk to a place where they found "Serenity and true divinity in my soul," suggesting that this awakening has brought a sense of inner peace and understanding.

The singer then mentions talking to scholars who have shaped the world and the importance of patterns in this control. This idea of patterns and control is repeated throughout, with the singer asserting that "In this world it's patterns that take control." However, the song ends on a somewhat ambiguous note, with the repeated phrase "Hold on this world is changing" and the assertion that "There's nothing left for me." This could suggest a sense of uncertainty about the future or a feeling of detachment from the world now that the singer has this newfound understanding.

Overall, the lyrics to Square and Compass seem to be about personal growth and awakening, with a focus on the patterns and control in the world. The ending leaves the listener with a sense of uncertainty, but the journey described throughout the song suggests that this person has found a certain peace in their newfound understanding.

Stan Smith

great album indeed but i'm expecting more Guthrie Govan-ish guitar solo like what Julian did on Odeon and his album preview of Polarity

mentalparasite666

i dont see how anyone rips on any of Elitist's material. The usual complaint i hear is that they sound like mediocre metalcore which isn't true at all. Elitist are on the top of their game. They havn't taken a single misstep

BANGOUT

this is way better than AILD's album in my opinion. I mean yeah AILD is awesome but their new album just didn't capture my attention like this one did. Reshape Reason is just perfection.
