Meteor Shower
Elizabeth Grace Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

4 AM, good morning friend, I had the weirdest dream
I woke up in the darkest parking lot that you had ever seen
It's overcast in Los Angeles today
Born into these yellow lines and told we had to stay
I hadn't met you earlier 'cause legend says we're a mess

Even though my joy I won't let hinge on what happens in the end
Where you are happiest, I wanna make you happy next
Here all this time I thought I wanted friends
If you're what happens in the end
Where you are happiest, I wanna make you happy next
Call it home when we're homesick
If you think it's too good to be true
then I'll believe in the lie, it was you

I'm not writing a love song 'cause
I don't want to, it's because I can't
Boy we live in the real world, and I don't want to, man I just can't
You know I'm not even a lover but
you could make it so easy for me to cave
And if home is really where the heart is, then damnit
I just should've stayed

You can take my heart, you can take my hand, and consume my thoughts
We can catch a meteor shower in death valley with your paid time off
You're so far away all the time
But now I can sing you to sleep every night
And if you think it's too good to be true then I'll believe in the lie
It was you

It was you
It was you

Overall Meaning

The song "Meteor Shower" by Elizabeth Grace tells the story of two people who find each other in the midst of the chaos of the world around them. The lyrics paint a picture of a dreamlike state where the singer wakes up in a dark parking lot and muses about the idea that perhaps their meeting was fated. The song explores themes of home, love, and happiness, all while acknowledging the trauma and disappointment that can sometimes come with these concepts.

The singer notes how they may have missed the chance to meet earlier due to the expectations society has placed upon them, but now that they have found each other, they want to make sure they make each other happy. The song also acknowledges the complexity of a possible relationship, with the singer stating they are not even a lover, but the other person could make it easy for them to cave. Nonetheless, the singer hopes to catch a meteor shower in death valley and sing the other person to sleep every night. The song ends on a powerful note, with the singer recognizing that it was this person who made them believe in love despite the world's challenges.

That moment when you feel embraced, held close and safe by a song. Eliza, that's what this song does to me. I really love it and it's just undescribable how a song can just do that. Thank you for your great work! Much much love from Germany! <3

@papluab

All these years later, compared to the official version released on Wormwood, this is still the best version. Beautiful production, layered vocals, perfect headphone mix... I don't know what went wrong but I suppose when you start off with perfection, the only way to go is down.

@nogo2790

Just heard this before bed, what a great way to end the night.

@JimMajuri

Jesus christ, this gave me chills. You never cease to amaze me.

@ShiivaWilding

Went back to her first Q&A to find out her age... she's 20. I've never looked up to someone waaaaay younger than me but hell yeah, this qualifies! Eliza if you read this, get ahold of Amarante for a future song because those three voices on a single track would be incredible!
