Goulding explained the meaning of the song to Digital Spy: "It's about letting go. As opposed to all the sad and depressing things I write about, I decided to write something about the joining together of people in some kind of euphoric state - be it at a festival, at a show or in a club. I wanted a song that would reach out to people of every background and every enjoyment, whether you enjoy a natural high, taking drugs, drinking or whatever. Because I'm essentially a pop artist I wanted to write a song that everyone can relate to."
About the inspiration for the video, Goulding said: "I wanted it to be quite simple and down-to-earth to keep focus on the song. I guess it's just me kind of feeling the vibes. I wanted to be able to have freedom, which I literally do when I float in the air."
Twenty three year old Ellie Goulding was awarded the Critics Choice Award at this years Brits, an accolade held by Florence + The Machine and Adele in previous years so a great omen of things to come! 'Starry Eyed' is the second track to be released from Ellie's debut album 'Lights', it reached No.4 in February 2010.

Oh, oh
Starry eyed
Hit, hit, hit, hit, hit me with lightning
Handle bars, and then I let go, let go for anyone
Take me in, and throw out my heart and get a new one
You look at me it's like you hit me with lightning
Ah
Oh, everybody's starry eyed
And everybody glows
Oh, everybody's starry eyed
And my body goes
Whoa, oh, oh, ah, ah
Whoa, oh, oh, ah, ah
Whoa, oh, oh, ah, ah
So we burst into colors, colors and carousels
Fall head first like paper planes in playground games
Next thing we're touching
You look at me it's like you hit me with lightning
Ah
Oh, everybody's starry eyed
And everybody glows
Oh, everybody's starry eyed
And my body goes
Whoa, oh, oh, ah, ah
Whoa, oh, oh, ah, ah
Whoa, oh, oh, ah, ah
Next thing we're touching (oh whoa, whoa)
Next thing we're touching (and I let go)
Next thing we're touching (oh whoa, whoa)
Next thing we're touching (we come and go but we're not in love)
Next thing we're touching (oh whoa, whoa)
Next thing we're touching (we come and go but we're not in love)
Next thing we're touching
Next thing we're touching
Hit me with lightning
Oh, everybody's starry eyed
And everybody glows
Oh, everybody's starry eyed
And my body goes
Oh, everybody's starry eyed (everybody's starry eyed)
And everybody glows
Oh, everybody's starry eyed (oh, everybody, whoa-oh)
And my body goes (oh-ooh, whoa, whoa, whoa)
Whoa oh oh ah ah (whoa, whoa, whoa)
Whoa oh oh ah ah (whoa, where my body goes?)
Ah, oh, ooh-ooh
Ellie Goulding's hit single "Starry Eyed" depicts the feeling of being in love and having a sense of enjoyment and wonder about the world. The song starts with the chorus, where Ellie sings, "Oh, oh, starry eyed (starry), Oh, oh, Starry eyed" - creating a dreamy, magical mood that sets the tone for the remainder of the track. In the verses, she describes the feeling of being hit by lightning when seeing someone you're interested in while riding a bike with "Handle bars, and then I let go, let go for anyone. Take me in, and throw out my heart and get a new one."
The lyrics "So we burst into colors, colors and carousels, Fall headfirst like paper planes in playground games" symbolize the joy and rush of a new romance, where everything seems exciting and colorful. While the post-chorus "everybody's starry-eyed, and everybody glows, Oh, everybody's starry-eyed, and my body goes, whoa, oh, oh, ah, ah" - highlights the notion that being in love makes everything seem fantastic and sparkly. Overall, Ellie beautifully captures the feeling of new love and the feeling of infinite possibilities.
