Just because they're closed doesn't mean that people aren't working. I used to work at Walmart and they require all of their store employees to do a 12-hour shift mandatory on Christmas as well as on Thanksgiving or Black Friday and on other important shopping holidays throughout the year. Why do you think the day after Christmas all of their Christmas and holidays are gone and they replaced by stuff for the New Year's or Valentine's Day? It's because people who work there are mandated to work 12-hour shifts on Christmas or Christmas Eve depending on what their supervisor decides. If you don't do your mandatory 12 hour shift on a holiday it counts as two days missed. They go hard core about their employees working on holidays.

walmart has their employees work every day of the year, all 366 days. There is no exceptions for showing up to work. I was 20 years old and having a minor heart attack (from working there at walmart), and management told me they'd sue me if I clocked out and took an ambulance to the hospital.
