Angel in the Snow
Elliott Smith Lyrics

I'd say you make a perfect
Angel in the snow
All crushed out on the way you are
Better stop before it goes too far
Don't you know that I love you
Sometimes I feel like only a cold still life
That fell down here to lay beside you
Don't you know that I love you
Sometimes I feel like only a cold still life
Only a frozen still life
That fell down here to lay beside you

He just hits my soul in a whole different way. Every song is a longing for a love I fear I will never find.

Galang

Same here, man.

Lucas Smith

Perhaps it is well that you never find it. Love...love can be a ruthless tool in the arsenal of the broken and meaningless. I have been broken by it. Made to wear the hair shirt, and broken on it’s rack a second time. I can honestly say that i lost pieces of myself what is left is not up to the challange that love presents. Hollywood should be ashamed about lying about the true nature of love. Love can be the sweetst thing. It can also be the means by which you are dragged into hell. Do not approach lightly. For those on the rack right now. Hang on. If not for yourself for others. You will not be able to forget this. But you can learn to live with it.

The song is about coke. Try that.

I'm sure you all will. This is about his longing. Not yours.

It's important to remember these songs: to remember that this is a double album of outtakes that didn't even make it onto the two albums pressed during their composition. It's important because so many of them are understated masterpieces, like Smith's work as a whole.

If you have in yourself a creative spark, whatever your medium, remember this: It's not important to remember these songs so as to become discouraged; but rather, it's important to remember these songs to take them in as fuel with which the singular spark in you and only you might shine, for its time, in this place. For any who needs to see or hear or know what you have to say.

I completely agree. When I first got into Elliott around 2003, I just downloaded a bunch of tracks not paying attention to which albums they came from, and when I learned this was his posthumous unfinished release(also his least acclaimed) I was floored bc a high percentage of the tracks that connected with me immediately and strongly were from this record

@J X Thank you JX - Means a lot to me ^_^ I have a number of projects like that as well and right now they're mostly lying fallow. But I wrote it in part to remind myself, and so the reminder comes back around. I'm glad it inspired you and now you've reinspired me. That's how it's supposed to work maybe. Thanks again

This comment moved me so much I'm going to keep it in that special section of my scrapbook of inspirational stuff, so it will live on forever.

I have many short stories and a poetry collection I have written, and photography I'm working on, and I cannot let that spark die. I don't make anything because I "have a dream" of "Making it Big", I do it only because it lives inside me and will not let me go.

Thank you for reminding me. Whatever it is you want in life, I hope you find it.

Whenever i find myself walking through a light snow i end up singing to myself...”dooon’t you know that i looooove you” without a thought behind it.

It would be amazing to have new music from Elliott, but given the circumstances and how hard it can be for people with such chronic psychological problems to even get their art out to the public; I am just grateful we have what we have and it is so legitimately pure. Rest In Peace Elliott.
