Twilight
Elliott Smith Lyrics

Haven't laughed this hard in a long time
I better stop now before I start crying
Go off to sleep in the sunshine
I don't want to see the day when it's dying

She's a sight to see, she's good to me
I'm already somebody's baby
She's a pretty thing and she knows everything
But I'm already somebody's baby
You don't deserve to be lonely
But those drugs you got won't make you feel better
Pretty soon you'll find it's the only
Little part of your life you're keeping together

I'm nice to you, I could make it through
That you're already somebody's baby
I could make you smile if you stayed a while
But how long will you stay with me baby

Because your candle burns too bright
Well, I almost forgot it was twilight
Even if I think that you are right
Well, I'm tired of being down, I got no fight

You're wonderful, when it's beautiful
But I'm already somebody's baby
And if I went with you I'd disappoint you too
Well, I'm already somebody's baby
Already somebody's baby

Elliott knew. You know. I know. And amidst this recent sinister opioid epidemic sweeping the teenage to early 30’s age group in The USA right now, unfortunately too many other desperately depressed and hopeless young people in this country also know... :/

I was an IV drug user/junkie for 12 years of my life without having anything really bad happen to me or those directly around me for the entire time other than a few friends getting minor possession charges and my live-in gf of six years at that time, who I knew and worked with since her HS graduation, and regrettably introduced to heroin and subsequently got strung out with me breaking up with me after she got clean and while I was two months into kicking cold turkey...

But now in the last year, I’ve been arrested once. And had 7 close friends, including a dear friend last month who was like an older brother to me... he was an amazing Southern California skateboarder in the late 1980’s, a punk rocker who could get down with me on the good hardcore ska-punk of Leftöver Crack, classics such as “Another Girl, Another Planet” by The Only Ones, but at the same time would wax poetic about his love of the softer music especially our mutual affection for the music of Elliott Smith and his ability to relate to our struggles with addiction. Him and I even learned a duet-cover of Cat Steven’s “Trouble” together that ended up sounding more akin to Elliott’s cover of the song than the original, and above all else, my late “brother” Rex was a sweet, and kind soul... like an innocent child stuck in his early 40’s... definitely gone far too soon... just like our hero Elliott Smith...

RIP, boys... It was an honor and a pleasure to say I knew and knew of* you respectively... :(

Telling a girl he can't be with her because he's already in a relationship with his own dark depression.

This song is flawless. The melody, lyrics, everything. The raw emotion. The harmony of the vocals are on point. Everything is perfect.

i couldn't think of anything

@Bo Smith I never said it was anyone elses problem nor did I question his technique. I just don't think he has a very good voice.

@i couldn't think of anything Elliott actually is a tenor. He doesn’t fit the range of a baritone, he’s not really trying to do an opera level performance. He’s classified as a tenor by pretty much any range forum/method you want to use. I’m a baritone, and most of his stuff is only singable for me because he’s playing these songs a whole step down from Standard, in D instead of E. That might be what fools you into thinking he’s not a tenor, but even then, his voice has a brightness and very thin quality that only a tenor could have. His voice is a very unique voice, and if that doesn’t sound good to you, that’s a you problem. Many many many people, including trained musicians and other professional singers, disagree heavily with you.

@Put Jesus First i have ears. they prefer not to hear 40 year old men sounding like every guy who i went middle school with.
