When he looked much healthier in his early tv stand up days he didn’t wear the sunglasses, I think he tried to hide his sinking cheeks and eyes would give something away, but I still love all of his comedy and that look was iconic!

Mitch puts it out there, seems to laugh at his own jokes when necessary and just keeps it real. No false pretense about Mitch, that's why I love seeing him in all those different performances we have....pure gold...Miss you Mitch!

Seemingly laughing at your own jokes is lame, but in my opinion if you didn't think your own wit or wisecracks were funny then why would you inflict them on someone else? If you can't laugh at your own jokes don't expect someone else too, and if you can't laugh at your own misfortune you have no right to laugh at someone elses - the best comedians seem to follow both these statements. Self-deprecation and cracking yourself up with a silly idea always makes good comedy material.

I've never had the impression he was laughing at his own jokes. More like he's laughing because of the reaction he's getting, whether it be grateful laughter when the joke goes over, or nervous laughter when it doesn't.

God...I miss Mitch, he's by far my favorite stand up comedian. "I like kit kats, unless I'm with 4 or more people" Stuff like that...a single sentence, yet so hilarious and it sticks with you.

I talked to him at the Improv in DC about a month before he passed. He was a really cool and down to Earth dude. He had played the Warner Theater that night, I was at a Dave Attell show at the Improv and I went to the bar after the show and he was just standing there waiting for Attell to finish his meet and greet. RIP and thanks for the laughs Mitch.

Not only is he funny, but he's teaching me valuable life lessons, such as the buoyancy of citrus, WHEN to care if someone is purple, and that it's up to YOU how many rooms you have. Thank you Mitch. I'll use this knowledge to my benefit next time a boat capsizes.

I got to see this guy at the Improv at the Irvine Spectrum and after the show we had some shots of Grey Goose. Was a hilarious and awesome guy. You are missed Mitch.

he seemed really confident in this show, maybe he'd had more to drink than usual. Even though his shyness was part of his appeal if he had been his confident all the time I think he would've had a much larger fanbase. He really blew the crowd away at this performance.

well, sometimes i wish someone would recreate his act. but then again there will never be another person like him, his timeing and jokes are amazing. its just something about how he tells the jokes, he holds it and the voice he uses.

***** Actually he said in interviews that he was never high on stage. He wore the glasses, closed his eyes, performed fast, etc. all because he had terrible stage fright. It was a weird career path for him to choose with such a fear, but boy was he good at it!

I honestly can't believe it's been 16 years since he passed away. I remember getting hooked in high school and getting anxious for him to release new stuff. Sadly found out afterwards he had died a few years prior to me watching all his material. R.I.P dose-a-pede your comedy lives on!

I love Mitch, i saw him at the Wiltern in West Hollywood. We kept begging him to say the fish and duck jokes the whole time. He was like, "i guess i have to come up with more jokes, you guys know them all"! he is the best comedian i've ever heard and seen!

This is to the people who don't know of him that much. Mitch had a severe stage fright problem, which is why most of the time he wears glasses and/or lets his hair hang over his eyes. While starting out (from what i read), hedberg would perform with his eyes closed. He's not drunk, probably just nervous.

Great joke, but...have you ever climbed an out of order escalator? Each step is so different than a normal stairs, it throws you out of whack ( at least it does me; it's kind of like being drunk ).
