Fly Me to the Moon
Elsie Bianchi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To say a simple thing.
It takes thought and time and rhyme
To make a poem sing.
With music and words I've been playing
For you I have written a song.
To be sure that you'll know what I'm saying
Fly me to the moon,
And let me play among the stars.
Won't you let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words: Hold my hand!
In other words: Darling, kiss me!
Fill my heart with song,
And let me sing forever more
You are all I long for all I worship and adore
In other words: Please be true!
In other words: I love you!
The opening lines of Elsie Bianchi's "Fly Me To The Moon" suggest that the songwriting process is often underestimated - poets and musicians alike may pour their heart and soul into a creation, even if the message they want to convey is simply put. The lyrics elegantly describe the thoughtful effort required to make words fit a melody, ensuring that they sing together in harmony. The writer is ultimately seeking to communicate their feelings to their intended listener, and with this song, this communication takes on a romantic tone.
The remainder of the lyrics in "Fly Me To The Moon" utilize metaphors related to space travel to further convey feelings of love and devotion. The writer wants to be whisked away to the far reaches of space, where they can play among the stars and explore alien landscapes on distant planets. The lyrics "In other words: Hold my hand!" and "In other words: Darling, kiss me!" make their intentions clear, emphasizing the strong emotional pull they feel towards the listener. They want to be with this person "forever more" and "worship and adore" them, expressing their love in simple yet poetic terms.
Overall, "Fly Me To The Moon" is a charming tribute to romantic love, demonstrating how simple language and whimsical metaphors can convey deep feelings of affection. The song is a timeless classic that has been covered by countless artists across the decades, and its hold on popular culture is a testament to its enduring appeal.
