Eluveitie use both traditional Swiss and Celtic instruments alongside electric guitars and drums. Their music is known to be inspired by Gothenburg’s melodic death metal Scene and their lyrics are written in a mix of English and Gaulish. The name of the band comes from a graffito on a vessel from Mantua (ca. 300 BC). The inscription in Etruscan letters reads eluveitie, which has been interpreted as the Etruscan form of the Celtic (h)elvetios (“the Helvetian”), presumably referring to a man of Helvetian descent living in Mantua.
On 14 October 2017, the band announced via social media that they were working on a new album, and were to due to start recording after their Maximum Evocation tour. The band also revealed that they had recorded a single in advance of the tour, at Tommy Vetterli's New Sound Studio, entitled "Rebirth". The single was released on 27 October 2017, along with a music video produced by Wolfgang Wolman and Oliver Sommer. "Rebirth" marked the first non-acoustic record produced by the new line-up. On the band's official Instagram account, it was announced the new album is called Ategnatos. It was released on 5 April 2019. On 2 June 2022, the band released a brand new single "Aidus" along with a music video. On 5 July, the band announced that Michalina Malisz left the band on good terms

Of Fire Wind & Wisdom
Eluveitie Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The threshold the place beyond
I enter, like a newborn child
Embracing the eternal
Like a consuming fire
The knowledge grows
When it's cleft
Yet flooding
The creating touch
Washing away the vile
Embracing the ancient
While trees gently whisper
Those intimate
Longed-for words
The greet wheel
Is still revolving
With untouchable sovereignty
So invulnerable
Into the sacred grove I drown
The endless knot
Draws me into
The fire of hearts, the place beyond
Then I'll be born
Then I'll be renewed
Naked spirit bare
Spirit
The lyrics of Eluveitie's "Of Fire Wind & Wisdom" speak of the singer's experience entering a sacred grove or spiritual space. The location is filled with symbolism, including the endless knot or eternal cycle of life and death, the holy threshold between worlds, and trees whispering intimate truths. The singer describes themselves as a "newborn child" entering this space, embracing the eternal like a "consuming fire." They seek knowledge, growth, and the opportunity to wash away negativity and impurity.
The singer also references the "great wheel" that continues to turn with "untouchable sovereignty" and invincibility. This may refer to the cycle of life and death or the idea of fate or destiny. They speak of being drawn into the fire of hearts, a place beyond the physical realm, where they can be reborn and renewed as a naked spirit.
The song's lyrics blend pagan and spiritual themes, referencing ancient beliefs and practices. The singer seeks purification, knowledge, and rebirth through their connection to the sacred grove and the eternal cycle of life and death.
