Sweet Caroline
Elvis Presley; The Imperials Quartet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where it began , I can't begin to knowing
But then I know it's growing strong
Was in the spring
Then spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along
Hands , touching hands
Reaching out , touching me , touching you
Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I'd be inclined
To believe they never would
So good , so good

Look at the night and it don't seem so lonely
We filled it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulder
How can I hurt when I'm holding you ?
One , touching one
Reaching out , touching me touching you

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I'd be inclined
To believe they never would
So good , so good

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the popular song "Sweet Caroline" by Elvis Presley; The Imperials Quartet are a reflection of love, joy, and intimacy. The song begins with the lyrics, "Where it began, I can't begin to knowing, but then I know it's growing strong." This line conveys the idea that love can sometimes arise unexpectedly or from unknown origins, but when it takes root, it grows stronger by the day. The singer then goes on to reflect on the seasons, stating that the relationship began in the spring and continued into the summer, perhaps indicating that the love has been blossoming and thriving over time. As the song progresses, the idea of touching and physical interaction comes into play. The lyrics "Hands, touching hands, reaching out, touching me, touching you" reflect the intimacy and connection between two people who are in love.

The refrain of the song, "Sweet Caroline, good times never seemed so good, I'd be inclined to believe they never would, so good, so good," emphasizes the positivity and euphoria that love can bring. Whether it be through good times or bad, love has the power to make everything seem brighter and more beautiful. The song concludes with the repetition of the refrain and a final emphasis on how love can transform and enhance one's life, making it an uplifting and positive message overall.

Nobody did and nobody will ever. Beautiful heavenly voices.
Like angles, sweet sweet spirit.
Haven't heard it for a long time.
Time fades away. Sad.
Elvis On Tour, great documentary.
Beautiful man. Beautiful music.
Beautiful lost soul.
Elvis had it all, God damn prescription pills
and nobody had the guts to talk to Elvis that he's ruining he life.
But, Elvis is with his mother, brother, father and the good lord.
God bless them souls.
RIP, Elvis. Í still miss you,
your music's here but, you are not. Later, man. ✌👋✝️💚

There's a sweet sweet spirit in this place
And I know that it's the spirit of the Lord

There are sweet expressions on each face
And I know that it's the presence of the Lord

Sweet Holy Spirit
Sweet heavenly dove
Stay right here with us
Filling us with your love
And for these blessings
We lift our hearts in praise (hearts in praise)
Without a doubt we'll know that we have been revived
When we shall leave this place

The tears rolling down Elvis’ face say it all. He was singing to the Lord even though he wasn’t audibly singing.

Just my two bits

After Elvis’s🕺 concerts he would sing Gospel songs with the stamps quartet for hours, this song had special meaning for him- because the song is about God’s Holy Spirit ✝️

Beautiful just Beautiful!

Omg, the reverance Elvis is. showing simply by just listening is palpable. Elvis is moved and uplifted deep within his soul here, his facial expression says it all.

He may have been the star of the show yet he always made way to let others have their time in spotlight, his love and admiration for JD and Stamps never failed, also for his band and backing singers.

This performance alone shows without a doubt the humility of Elvis Presley.

The stamps sang this song at his funeral. Thry knew what he liked. Vernon asked JD to plan the songs.

@gracieg7601  yes, I read that JD was in charge of hymns to be sung.
