Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley's classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for more than two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. With a series of successful network television appearances and chart-topping records, he became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously popular—and controversial.
In November 1956, Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He held few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, following a seven-year break from live performances, he returned to the stage in the acclaimed television comeback special Elvis, which led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of highly profitable tours. In 1973, Presley gave the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast around the world, Aloha from Hawaii. Years of prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at his Graceland estate, just 42 years of age.
Presley is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the 20th century. Commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, blues, and gospel, he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He won three competitive Grammys, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.

Elvis Presley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We almost made it as a team
How nice it would have been
We almost touched the stars
And there stood heaven, almost ours
But we were just outsiders looking in
But fate stepped in to end it all
Before it could begin
And if it's true you're really going
There's nothing but goodbye to say
The saddest part of all is knowing
We almost went all the way
The lyrics in Elvis Presley's song "We Almost Made It" ares filled with a deep sense of regret and sorrow. They tell a story of two people who almost achieved greatness together, but ultimately fell short. The first verse speaks about the almost dream-like state that the pair were in, almost achieving their goal of success as a team. It's easy to hear how close they were, as the word "almost" is repeated twice in both lines, highlighting that they were close enough to touch their goal but not quite reach it. The second verse describes how close they were to obtaining their wildest dreams and how they had a chance to achieve it. Unfortunately, their fate interrupted their plans and ended it before it could begin.
The chorus talks about the impending separation that's about to take place between the two members of the team. They both know that the end is coming, and the saddest part of it all is that they almost made it. It must be hard for them to accept that they were so near to achieving greatness, but it's just out of reach. The lyrics evoke a sense of melancholy and regret.

THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love
To the dark and the empty skies
The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command
And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart beat close to mine
I knew our joy would fill the earth
And would last till the end of time, my love
And would last till the end of time

Of all the many versions.. Elvis does it best 🙏 I am 44 and yet whenever I listen to Elvis's song the same feelings I got when I first heard him 34 years ago. His voice really moves your inner spirit & your deepest emotion, ❤️🌹

Elvis's version is my favourite too. Better than Robera Flacks version.
However, Ewan McColl who wrote it stated Elvis's version was the worst he had heard.
Beautiful words. You have to love a person to truly understand their meaning.
I'm 57 and an Elvis fan since the age of 3 in 1968.

This song is so lovely sung by him.
His voice is a symphony in itself, there doesn't need to be any music.
Of course it all goes together so beautifully.
So glad he did this song!
