Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley's classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for more than two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. With a series of successful network television appearances and chart-topping records, he became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously popularโand controversial.
In November 1956, Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He held few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, following a seven-year break from live performances, he returned to the stage in the acclaimed television comeback special Elvis, which led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of highly profitable tours. In 1973, Presley gave the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast around the world, Aloha from Hawaii. Years of prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at his Graceland estate, just 42 years of age.
Presley is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the 20th century. Commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, blues, and gospel, he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He won three competitive Grammys, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
Don't Ask Me Why
Elvis Presley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't ask me why (don't ask me why)
Don't know what else to do
Don't ask me why
How sad my heart would be (heart would be)
If you should go (if you should go)
Though you're not good for me
It's not the kind
Of love I dream about
But it's the kind
That I can't live without
You're all I'm longing for (longing for)
Don't say goodbye (don't say goodbye)
I need you more and more
Don't ask me why
I need you more and more
Don't ask me why (don't ask me why)
Elvis Presleyโs song โAsk Meโ is a love ballad that speaks of a love that is not the kind of love that one dreams about, yet it's the kind that he can't live without. The song explores the singer's dilemma in loving someone who is not good for him but whom he desperately needs to be with. The first stanza talks about how the singer will continue to love their partner despite not knowing why, itโs as if the love has taken over and he canโt help his strong feelings.
In the second stanza, the singer admits that they know their partner is not good for them, but they still want to be with them, even though their heart would be sad if they were to leave. Itโs almost as if the singer is addicted to their partner, and they can't imagine life without them.
The chorus reflects the internal battle that the singer is facing, he knows that this love is not the kind he has dreamed about, but he can't live without it. His love and longing for his partner are too strong, and he asks them not to say goodbye. The last stanza concludes with him reiterating that he needs his partner more and more, and he can't explain why he loves them so much despite the fact that he knows they are not good for him.
Overall, 'Ask Me' by Elvis Presley is a poignant love song that explores the complexity of love and how it can sometimes be difficult to understand why we love certain people. It speaks to the human experience of being in love with someone who is not good for us.

A lot of people say the Elvis films where cheesy, not me, we see the best of him in these films, and the songs are mint.

Elvis Presley's films were outstanding.
Unfortunately, they were the reason why he couldn't make any more live performances for many years due to lack of time.

Find myself singing this quite randomly sometimes. Once you hear it as other Elvis ballads it just pleasantly stays in your memory banks.
