Don't Cry Daddy
Elvis Presley Lyrics

Today I stumbled from my bed
With thunder crashing in my head
My pillow still wet
From last night's tears
And as I think of giving up
A voice inside my coffee cup
Kept crying out
Ringing in my ears

Don't cry, daddy
Daddy, please don't cry
Daddy, you've still got me and little Tommy
And together we'll find a brand new mommy
Daddy, daddy, please laugh again
Daddy, ride us on your back again
Oh, daddy, please, don't cry

Why are children always first
To feel the pain and the hurt the worst?
It's true but somehow
It just don't seem right
'Cause every time I cry, I know
It hurts my little children, so I wonder
Will it be the same tonight?

Don't cry, daddy
Daddy, please don't cry
Daddy, you've still got me and little Tommy
And together we'll find a brand new mommy
Daddy, daddy, please laugh again
Daddy, ride us on your back again
Oh, daddy, please, don't cry

Oh, daddy, please don't cry

My father just passed away this morning and this was his and our favorite song ever to listen to together, and just hearing it reminds me of his voice and it overwhelms me with so many emotions. I miss him so much.

I'm so sorry. Seems like yesterday. At least we had and knew our father's. My grandson does not know his father. Very bad influence. Mine passed in 2010. I miss & love him. Taylor Lea, your father is near you.

I’ve NEVER heard any song that had put sooo much feeling & emotion as Elvis had sang this

Jay Viviano

Yep. Elvis got very emotional the first time he heard the lyrics to this, and told Mac Davis - "I'm going to record 'Don't Cry Daddy' for my father".
(Mac talked about this in an interview)

That explains the "feeling and emotion" you mentioned in this song.
It was deeply personal for Elvis
