Kentucky Rain
Elvis Presley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Seven lonely days
And a dozen towns ago
I reached out one night and you were gone
Don't know why you'd run
What you're running to or from
All I know is I want to bring you home

So I'm walking in the rain
Thumbing for a ride
On this lonely Kentucky back road
I've loved you much too long
My love's too strong
To let you go, never knowing
What went wrong
Kentucky rain keeps pouring down
And up ahead's another town that I'll go walking through

With the rain in my shoes (rain in my shoes)
Searchin' for you
In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain
Showed your photograph
To some old gray-bearded men
Sitting on a bench outside a gen'ral store
They said "yes, she's been here"
But their memory wasn't clear
Was it yesterday?
No, wait, the day before?

Finally got a ride
With a preacher man who asked
"Where you bound on such a cold dark afternoon?"
As we drove on through the rain
As he listened, I explained
And he left me with a prayer
That I'd find you

Kentucky rain keeps pouring down
And up ahead's another town that I'll go walking through
With the rain in my shoes (rain in my shoes)
Searchin' for you
In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain

Kentucky Rain is a song written by Eddie Rabbitt and Dick Heard and recorded by Elvis Presley in 1970. The song is about a man who is searching for his lost love in Kentucky. In the first verse, the singer expresses his confusion about why his lover left, and how he wants to bring her home. He then walks in the rain, searching for a ride to the next town. Eventually, he gets a ride with a preacher who listens to his story and prays for him to find his love. KENTUCKY RAIN

Seven lonely days and a dozen towns ago
I reached out one night and you were gone
Don't know why you'd run
What you're running to or from
All I know is I want to bring you home

So I'm walking in the rain, thumbing for a ride
On this lonely Kentucky back road
I've loved you much too long
And my love's too strong
To let you go, never knowing what went wrong

Kentucky rain keeps pouring down
And up ahead's another town
T hat I'll go walking through
With the rain in my shoes searching for you
In the cold Kentucky rain

Showed your photograph to some old gray-bearded men
Sitting on a bench outside a general store
They said, "Yes, she's been here"
But their memory wasn't clear
"Was it yesterday? No, wait, the day before"

Finally got a ride with a preacher man who asked
"Where you bound on such a cold dark afternoon?"
As we drove on through the rain
As he listened, I explained
And he left me with a prayer that I'd find you

I was driving in rain last month. Heard this song for the first time in a long time and it came on... Then I realized I was actually driving in Kentucky (pouring rain) for the first time in my life πŸ˜‚

@@JakeHughes-zq5cv 100%! It didn't stop there. Long story short, we wanted something healthy to eat finally. When we were in Lake Topaz hungry we saw that the restaurant was closed (opening later). So we walked around and in their arcade (then almost leaving) we noticed an Elvis pinball machine- it moved our direction like it gave me some Elvis swagger to where I asked at the separate bar if they had another restaurant and they did. And it was exactly what we were looking for in a nice buffet salad bar overlooking lake topaz.
