Baby be polite
You're gonna make me sore
If you don't greet me right
Don't you ever kiss me once, kiss me twice
Treat me nice
I know that you've been toldIt's not fair to tease
So if you come on cold
I'm really gonna freeze
If you don't want me to be cold as ice
Treat me nice
Make me feel at home
If you really care
Scratch my back and run your pretty
Fingers through my hair
You know I'll be your slave
If you ask me to
But if you don't behave
I'll walk right out on you
If you want my love then take my advice
Treat me nice
Make me feel at home
If you really care
Scratch my back and run your pretty
Fingers through my hair
You know I'll be your slave
If you ask me to
But if you don't behaveI'll walk right out on you
If you want my love then take my advice
Treat me nice, treat me nice
If you really want my love then treat me nicee
In "Treat Me Nice," Elvis Presley sings from the perspective of someone who is frustrated with their partner's lack of consideration and affection. The first verse sets the tone, as Elvis implores his lover to "be polite" and "greet [him] right" when he walks through the door. He doesn't want a half-hearted welcome, but rather a warm and loving embrace. Elvis warns that if his partner doesn't treat him well, he'll be "sore" โ indicating that neglect or mistreatment will cause him pain.
The chorus reinforces this plea for kindness and affection, with Elvis admonishing his partner to "Treat me nice." He knows he's been "told it's not fair to tease" and that he'll "freeze" if he's met with a cold response. Elvis wants to feel "at home" with his partner and desires physical intimacy as well โ "scratch my back and run your pretty fingers through my hair." However, he adds that he won't be her "slave" if she mistreats him โ if she's not willing to give him the love he needs, he'll "walk right out on [her]."
Overall, "Treat Me Nice" is a plea from Elvis to his partner to treat him with love and respect. He wants to feel appreciated and desired, and isn't willing to settle for less. The song highlights the importance of good communication, respect, and affection in any relationship.

I was at school when Elvis came out. The world changed overnight! We became โteenagers!โ We were suddenly โ dangerous!โ My mother bought me my first guitar. I still have it. I have played guitar ever since. I am 80 now, and still performing, solo these days. No backing tracks, just me, guitar, amp. Simple like his band was. I always do this song! โคโคโคโคโคโคโคโคโค
