We're Gonna Move
Elvis Presley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well there's a leak in this old building
Yes, there's a leak in this old building
Well there's a leak in this old building
We're gonna move to a better home

We got no pane in this old window'
We got no pane in this old window'
We got no pane in this old window'
We're gonna move to a better home

Well there's a hole in the roof where the rain pours in
A hole in the floor where it drops right out again
Well there's a leak in this old building
Well there's a leak in this old building
Well there's a leak in this old building
We're gonna move to a better home

Well there's a crack across the ceiling
Yes there's a crack across the ceiling
Well there's a crack across the ceiling
We're gonna find us a better home

We've gotta stove without a chimney
We've gotta stove without a chimney
What good's a stove without a chimney
We're gonna move to a better home

Pulling down window shades is no use at all
The kids and the neighbor can peep right through the wall
Well there's a leak in this old building
Well there's a leak in this old building
Well there's a leak in this old building

We're gonna move to a better, move to a better
Move to a better home.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Elvis Presley's song "We're Gonna Move" speaks of a need for a better home. The first stanza talks about a leak in the old building, which emphasizes the discomfort and inconvenience of living in such a place. This discomfort is further reinforced with the second stanza's line about the missing window pane. The third stanza lists the issues plaguing the building, such as a hole in the roof where rain pours in, a hole in the floor where it drops right out, and the continued presence of leaks. The fourth stanza mentions a crack across the ceiling which could imply a house requiring immense repairs, thereby adding an additional layer of worry and concern.

The final verse, however, takes the twist and talks about how the stove doesn't have a proper chimney. This line suggests an imminent threat to safety, since smoke is one of the leading causes of home fires. The chorus reinforces this determination to relocate to a better home, as no amount of effort can mask the issues that plague the present house. The song expresses the need for a shift to a better living environment, one without debilitating issues that affect daily life.

Cinematically Speaking

First time watching this movie earlier today and that sung just stuck out. The way Elvis performs is just so awesome!!! Stuck in my head too. All Elvis movies should be colourised (I know most were made in colour) but they should be re-made to HD!! He deserves nothing less since all his performances were HD and far superior to most everyone.

He just couldn't stand still while singing...the world never saw him coming and now the world will never forget him! Such a talent!

mcasuse

he never stands still.....

Old account

It’s a great distraction away from him playing the same D chord throughout the whole song lol

JPB

His voice was always a perfect match to musical instruments--no matter what the song was. The best match ever, probably.

CBSEye

You really brought this one back to life. The stereo sound takes the song to another level and the color is non-intrusive Good decision to leave in the subtitles and not crop the picture tight. Now bring on the other three, Don!

Jesus Torres Domingo

Era y es y será el rey de rock and rock el mejor cantante de mundo

NO MUNDO DOS JOGOS

Dá pra ver que eles se divertiram de verdade nessa cena, não simplesmente atuaram.
