Help Me
Elvis Presley & J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lord, help me walk
Another mile, just one more mile,
I'm tired of walkin' all alone

Lord, help me smile
Another smile, just one more smile,
You know I just can't make it on my own
I never thought I needed help before,
I thought that I could get by by myself
Now I know I just can't take it any more
With a humble heart, on bended knee,
I'm beggin' You, please, help me

Come down from Your golden throne to me, to lowly me,
I need to feel the touch of Your tender hand

Remove the chains of darkness
Let me see, Lord let me see,
Just where I fit into your master plan

I never thought I needed help before,
I thought that I could get by by myself
Now I know I just can't take it any more
With a humble heart, on bended knee,
I'm beggin' You, please, help me

With a humble heart, on bended knee,
I'm beggin' You, please, help me

No auto tune no mics just pure talent

derontchi

There is a shared mic by the pianist’s head

stege99

The level of vocal competencies here is crazy good. And then the King enters and you realize the quality and strength of his voice.-

MidnightModder

@derontchi I think he means no amplification, but if there is a mic there I would assume they were using monitors to hear themselves better above the piano.
Edit: Yeah, you can see and hear when Elvis gets closer to the mic toward the end of the video. Though that might've just been for the recording, who knows.

NAE2000

So true! And you had to be able to hear yourself and carry your own part - no ear piece, no monitor.

Linda Spencer

Elvis always wanted to sing Gospel music & he truly did a great job with it & J.D. Summer made it even better!

Nick's Pizza

Yea he loved JD's voice.

Gracie G

It’s in his heart. You can see it here so easily. Those little side smiles. Their beautiful.

Dwight Hamilton

I never get tired of this video Two thoughts:
1) Donnie Sumner (piano/vocal on Lighthouse) had an incredible voice.
2) There's never any question about who the leader of that crew is. You get the feeling that the guys were not just sycophants, they truly loved and admired Elvis.

John

The first time I heard them do The Lighthouse I burst into tears and looked for the nearest altar to repent. Man that gave me chills!
