I'm Coming Home
Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To leave the one you love
And you get more lonely
With each passing day
It's so lonely just sitting
And dreaming of
That girl thousand miles away
Just her picture here with me
And I know I just can't stand it anymore
I'm gonna leave right now
and go back where I ought to be
Goin' home to the girl that I adore
Well it's so very hard to have
To leave the one you love
And you get more lonely
With each passing day
It's so lonely just sitting
And dreaming of
That girl thousand miles away
Well, every time I hear
her sweet voice on the telephone
Then I know I just can't stand it another day
I'm gonna call right back
And tell her that I'm coming home and stay
Call her back and say I'm comin' home and stay
Call her back and say I'm comin' home and stay
The lyrics to Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis's song I'm Coming Home describe the agony of being separated from a loved one who is far away. The singer is struggling with loneliness and the constant ache of longing for the girl who is a thousand miles away. He realizes that just having her picture with him is not enough and he cannot bear it anymore. The desire to be with her is overwhelming and he decides to leave and go back to the place he ought to be - home, with the girl he adores.
The lyrics are a poignant reflection of the pain and heartache that people feel when they are away from their loved ones. It's a universal feeling that many can relate to, and the song captures it perfectly. The desperation in the singer's voice and the emotional intensity of the lyrics make for a powerful and moving song.
Overall, I'm Coming Home is a beautiful and heartfelt song that perfectly captures the pain of being separated from a loved one. It's a testament to the power of music to evoke real and raw emotion.

Love love this song and ELVIS !!!

Thought fans might like to know about a NEW CD that has been released that is unlike anything else available. It's an EU import called "ELVIS: THE NEW RECORDINGS" and it has 26 new (2015) overdubs of some of EP's best songs. His tracks were stripped down, his voice remastered to sound rich and clear, some overly loud vocal backings and/or instruments were turned down or eliminated entirely, and then Elvis's vocals were combined with some fresh new accompaniment. You can hear him better than ever before as his voice has been brought up in the mix!!! Some world-class musicians worked on this, including current members of the Grand Ole Opry band and other Nashville pros, some guys from the Atlanta jazz scene and even Europe. The sound quality is STUNNING and Elvis Express Radio has been playing some of these new overdubs for weeks and raving about them and those guys are tough critics! I noticed one Elvis Facebook page had 26,000 "likes" for this CD so fans must like it. It's like Elvis just stepped out of the recording studio. Of course, some "purists" claim they only like "Elvis originals"…but then they go and buy alternate takes that by definition he didn't think were up to par. This CD was released to honor his 80th birthday in January and it was done very respectfully and true to the originals. It really is special and nobody else has done anything quite like this. I would think no one is immune from tapping their feet and/or bobbing their head back-and-forth while listening to this song. You very, very rarely run across that nowadays (if ever).
