It's A Wonderful World
Elvis and Ann-Margaret Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Young as a circus parade, it's a wonderful world
Pretty as pink lemonade, it's a wonderful world
Life is a carnival, live it for all your worth
You are the star of the greatest show on earth

This big wide world is a clown with his nose painted red
A rainbow colored balloon's dancing high overhead
It's everyone's oyster, step up get your pearl
It's a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world

This big wide world is a clown with his nose painted red
A rainbow colored balloon's dancing high overhead
It's everyone's oyster, step up get your pearl

It's a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world
It's a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world

Overall Meaning

The song It's a Wonderful World by Elvis and Ann-Margaret is a celebration of life and all the joys and wonders it brings. The lyrics convey a sense of youthfulness and playfulness, where life is compared to a circus and a carnival. The first two lines of the song set the tone for this imagery, with the comparison of life to pink lemonade, which is pretty and sweet. The lyrics then encourage the listener to live life to the fullest and embrace it as though they are the star of their own show.

The second half of the song begins with the repetition of the line "This big wide world is a clown with his nose painted red." Here, the song takes on a more whimsical tone, as the world is compared to a clown, a playful and silly figure. The rainbow-colored balloon adds to this imagery, as balloons are typically associated with joy and celebration. Again, listeners are reminded that everyone has a chance to succeed and find their own pearl in life. The chorus repeats once again, emphasizing the wonderfulness of the world we live in.

Though breaking up is one of - if not THE hardest - circumstances many of us have endured, Ann-Margret is an inspiration for those of us who loved her. It showed she was strong and independent, and that she and he could still be friends after they said goodbye. Many of us don’t have that - by the other’s choice. And for me it made the recovery that much more difficult. Ann-Margret wasn’t only talented, she was intelligent too.

I wish they had married. Such chemistry between them. Both got a lot going on and life got in the way. 💖💖💖💖💖

@loryjones7220

My musician dad had worked with him on the set of Girl Happy. He was very impressed with Elvis, said he was "humble" and that he loved God and his mama.

@spirituallysafe

I don't think he loved God, because God says those who love Him keep His commandments. So much adultery. I hope he repented, I really do.

@bellinda2771

It was the right decision. Just because you are in love with someone, doesn’t mean you can live with each other or it’s going to work out in marriage. I speak from experience. I just wish Ann Margret was in his life those final years. She may have been able to help him escape the Colonel’s lizard like grip

@no1nestandsalone387

True.. but also Elvis didn’t want to stop the drugs

@analovatic701

Sorry but as if people around him did not try to stop it from happening. They sure did but no one except for himself could help him

@qso3566

AM is a narcissist. Elvis did not love her, they were friends. And btw, may I remind everyone here that she married Roger 7 days after Elvis married Priscilla which meant she had a pretty serious relationship with Smith, so she was not exactly pining away for Elvis after Viva Las Vegas. Ann Margret is a drama queen.
