American Déjà Vu
Emarosa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm restless in our bedroom and I'm restless with my faith
No old sins and old ways
But I fear the reaper
So when it's my time I'll find the way
To take me down and when all that remains is the way to take my doubt

It's suddenly haunting
It's suddenly scaring me that I'm still drowning and pulling you down underneath
I'm starting to panic and I'm starting to feel it sink
The world is what you want but you're better off beneath it with me

And I failed to make amends
Isn't it a shame you say all my sins and taste, what I've done wrong
But when I find my peace of mind I'll take you along
To take me down and when all that remains is the way to take my doubt

It's suddenly haunting
It's suddenly scaring me that I'm still drowning and pulling you down underneath
I'm starting to panic and I'm starting to feel it sink
The world is what you want but you're better off beneath it with me

So you take the bad way
Bad state better no
Take off the lies

Never say never stay awake to say you're wrong
Always in a state that I don't know
Taking up your lovers' time
So why are you alone

It's suddenly haunting
It's suddenly scaring me that I'm still drowning and pulling you down underneath

I'm starting to panic and I'm starting to feel it sink
The world is what you want but you're better off beneath it with me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Emarosa’s song American Deja Vu describes a sense of restlessness both in the singer’s personal life and in their spirituality. They feel trapped by their doubts and fears, and despite their efforts to break free from their old ways and sins, they are haunted and scared by their own thoughts. The singer fears the possibility of facing death without coming to terms with their doubts and aversions, and the lyrics suggest that they are willing to take others down with them. The line, “The world is what you want but you're better off beneath it with me,” implies the singer’s belief that the people around them are better off living with their same anxieties and fears rather than facing the harsh reality of life without them.

Furthermore, the lyrics describe the singer’s struggle to make amends and their frustration over their inability to do so. They express remorse for their past mistakes, and while they hope to make peace with themselves eventually, they also feel the weight of their own sins more heavily as time goes on. The repetition of the line “take me down and when all that remains is the way to take my doubt” suggests that the singer is trying to find a way to confront their fears and doubts head-on, even if it means going down a difficult path.

Dare I say this, Emarosa was talented with Jonny and still is with Bradley.  Jonny Craig put out two stellar records with this band and is still reaching new heights with Slaves.  Both bands are good I love this song I love Slaves, its time to stop making music a competition folks its petty and stupid.  Just shut up, sit back, relax, and enjoy

Derrick Jee

Haha of course I notice them. Literally every music video I see, there are comments that compare bands/singers/personalities/races etc. Gotta learn that they're all trolls, seriously. They're saying "this is generic" or "slaves > this" because it gets a huge, angry response from a lot of people lol

patrick cantin

@Trenton Bigfoot you can't tell me you don't notice the emarosa and slaves comparison comments though

Derrick Jee

@patrick cantin lol nobody's making it a competition. There are simply trolls who say "this is generic" and then a million negative comments from dumb people taking the bait flood in. Like whatever music you want to like, don't take comments too seriously

Matthew Capo

patrick cantin

This might be my favorite song they've ever done... so much awesomeness. The vocal performance by Bradley is a candidate for best of the year.
