Upon the band's formation, they released one extended play (EP) in 2007, titled This Is Your Way Out, and shortly after, the group underwent significant line-up and sound changes, dropping their metalcore influence and leaning towards a more rock sound. The band released their debut studio album, Relativity (2008), which featured vocalist Jonny Craig and rhythm guitarist Jonas Ladekjaer. Their second studio album, Emarosa, was released in June 2010, to critical acclaim, and was Craig's final album with the group.
Following Craig's departure, the band toured briefly with a fill-in vocalist before entering a period of inactivity. Eventually, Craig was formally replaced by Walden. Emarosa then released their third studio album, Versus, on September 9, 2014, which peaked at No. 61 in the Billboard 200. The band signed to Hopeless Records and released their fourth and fifth studio albums, 131 (2016) and Peach Club (2019). A sixth, Sting, is set for release in January 2023.

People Like Me We Just Don't Play
Emarosa Lyrics

I can see you running out
It's faith
(Help me)
I can feel you leaving
It's a tale of what I don't have
The will to say
The filth that I became
I'm losing you are the reasons I can't hide
But I can't stop running no
And I fall asleep in the safest places I can find
I'm losing religion because I can't find a god that's mine
And so it's back to the old me
Killing you slowly and I'm fine
I can feel you leaving
We're burning bridges down to the fire below
Time to let it go
No you won't
So maybe reasons why
I'm losing you are the reasons I can't hide
But I can't stop running no
And I fall asleep in the safest places I can find
I'm losing religion because I can't find a god that's mine
And so it's back to the old me
Killing you slowly and I'm fine
Show me something
Shake me from my haze
When I need your help
You never saw me coming no
Here in my personal hell
So maybe reasons why
I'm losing you are the reasons I can't hide
But I can't stop running no
And I fall asleep in the safest places I can find
I'm losing religion because I can't find a god that's mine
And so it's back to the old me
Killing you slowly and I'm fine
The song "People Like Me We Just Don't Play" by Emarosa is a poignant depiction of a person grappling with the pain and confusion of a failing relationship. The lyrics are charged with raw emotion and the pain of letting go. The singer is struggling to accept the reality of the situation, desperately clinging to what is gone and running away from the inevitable.
The opening verse sets the tone for the rest of the song, with the singer admitting that they can feel their partner leaving, and see them running away. The use of the word "faith" in parentheses highlights the singer's vulnerability and the fact that they are pleading for help. The theme of losing faith extends to the chorus where the singer reveals that they are losing their religion because they cannot find a god that is theirs. The lyrics show some self-awareness, with the singer acknowledging that the reasons they are losing their partner are the same reasons they cannot suppress, but they also can't stop running.
Ultimately, the song is a cathartic expression of grief, anger, and frustration over a lost love. The lyrics are poignant, and the melodies perfectly capture the various emotions evoked by the situation.
