Upon the band's formation, they released one extended play (EP) in 2007, titled This Is Your Way Out, and shortly after, the group underwent significant line-up and sound changes, dropping their metalcore influence and leaning towards a more rock sound. The band released their debut studio album, Relativity (2008), which featured vocalist Jonny Craig and rhythm guitarist Jonas Ladekjaer. Their second studio album, Emarosa, was released in June 2010, to critical acclaim, and was Craig's final album with the group.
Following Craig's departure, the band toured briefly with a fill-in vocalist before entering a period of inactivity. Eventually, Craig was formally replaced by Walden. Emarosa then released their third studio album, Versus, on September 9, 2014, which peaked at No. 61 in the Billboard 200. The band signed to Hopeless Records and released their fourth and fifth studio albums, 131 (2016) and Peach Club (2019). A sixth, Sting, is set for release in January 2023.

Pretend Release The Close
Emarosa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And out of the mold we?ll rise
Out of the mold
Take back what I own
And for you
I'm alive.
This household reeks,
We will love
I'll break you down
We will love
I'll break you down
This glue never gave so fast
This breath won't be his last
The dreams have past.
We all shall burn
From insecurities
Hold your hands to the sky
Now I know where I'm from today
Now I know where I'm from today
Out of stone, we all fall away
Out of stone, we all fall away
And now here comes the attitude
I'm not even mad at you
Just sit back and take a cue
There's nothing left for you
The lyrics of Emarosa's song "Pretend. Release. The Close" paint a picture of a relationship that is built on lies and deceit. The singer declares that they will base their lies on one night and rise out of the mold, taking back what they own. The relationship is clearly toxic, with the singer acknowledging the reek of the household and the curse of indifference that they cannot pass by.
Despite the toxicity, the singer proclaims that they will love and break the other person down. They acknowledge the impermanence of life with lines like "this glue never gave so fast" and "this breath won't be his last." The relationship is doomed to failure, as they declare that "We all shall burn from insecurities." However, the singer still acknowledges their roots and where they come from.
In the end, the singer adopts an attitude of detachment as they declare that there is nothing left for the other person to do. They are resigned to the end of the relationship, letting go of the lies, and moving on.
