Their debut album, "Embrace the Eternal", showed a change in style as Embodyment added elements of metalcore to their death metal sound (Embrace the Eternal is one of the earliest deathcore records). "Embrace the Eternal" featured re-makes of the songs "Golgotha" and "Religious Infamy", which were originally from their demos, as well as guest vocals by Bruce Fitzhugh, vocalist for seminal Christian metal band Living Sacrifice.
After the departure of Kris McCaddon on vocals, Embodyment welcomed Sean Corbray as vocalist and recorded "''The Narrow Scope of Things''", released in 2000. This album was the band's first step away from any of the heavier metal subgenres. Instead, their sound on the album was adjusted to alternative metal with hard rock influences and was the first album to feature actual singing and some screamed vocal parts rather than any form of death vocals.
Embodyment next released Hold Your Breath in 2001, an album which saw the removal of all screamed vocals and yet more slight shift away from the remaining metal influence there had been on "The Narrow Scope of Things". Their last album, "''Songs for the Living''", released under [[XS Records]] in 2002, completed the band's transition to alternative/indie rock and was originally made as an industry demo meant to get the band signed to a major label.
Embodyment later disbanded in early 2004 to the disappointment of loyal fans.

Ballad
Embodyment Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Your breath consumes my pores
Leave my heart in one
I swallow sunsets day by day
Media makes me ill
Previous desires have been slain
'cause all I want is you
Your presence makes me child like
My curfew turns to stone
This repetition kills me
Oh, please don't scorch my heart
I'm at a loss for words
Please let this rose
Speak for me
I love you, I need you, I want you
You give me strength to live
I feel like I'm ten feet tall
Forget thoughts of closure
An addict for your love
A diamond is forever
As well my love for you
Your face invades my dreams
Please be my wife
The lyrics to Embodyment's song "Ballad" express the overwhelming desire and love that the singer has for their significant other. The opening lines "Drench me in kisses, Your breath consumes my pores, Leave my heart in one" convey the physical and emotional intensity of the singer's attraction and love. The singer is consumed by their love interest, wanting to bask in their affection and envelopment. The line "I swallow sunsets day by day" is a metaphor for the grandeur of emotions the singer feels, and the beauty of that emotional state that they want to experience daily.
The song's lyrics give insight into the singer's past experiences with love and relationships. The verse "Previous desires have been slain, 'cause all I want is you" suggests that the singer has experienced romance before, but all their previous experiences pale in comparison to the love they now feel. They are so completely captivated by their current love interest that their previous desires have been destroyed. The intensity and purity of their current affection are all-consuming.
Overall, "Ballad" is a love song that expresses the depth of emotion one can feel for another person. It speaks of the all-consuming nature of true love, the overwhelming desire to be with someone, and the transformative power of a meaningful romantic connection.
