Their debut album, "Embrace the Eternal", showed a change in style as Embodyment added elements of metalcore to their death metal sound (Embrace the Eternal is one of the earliest deathcore records). "Embrace the Eternal" featured re-makes of the songs "Golgotha" and "Religious Infamy", which were originally from their demos, as well as guest vocals by Bruce Fitzhugh, vocalist for seminal Christian metal band Living Sacrifice.
After the departure of Kris McCaddon on vocals, Embodyment welcomed Sean Corbray as vocalist and recorded "''The Narrow Scope of Things''", released in 2000. This album was the band's first step away from any of the heavier metal subgenres. Instead, their sound on the album was adjusted to alternative metal with hard rock influences and was the first album to feature actual singing and some screamed vocal parts rather than any form of death vocals.
Embodyment next released Hold Your Breath in 2001, an album which saw the removal of all screamed vocals and yet more slight shift away from the remaining metal influence there had been on "The Narrow Scope of Things". Their last album, "''Songs for the Living''", released under [[XS Records]] in 2002, completed the band's transition to alternative/indie rock and was originally made as an industry demo meant to get the band signed to a major label.
Embodyment later disbanded in early 2004 to the disappointment of loyal fans.

One Less Addiction
Embodyment Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Under a purple sky
Naked trees are clawing for the air
This won't pull on emotions
But it's something to do
Go ahead, try it
If you dislike, refunds at the door
I always fell for the sucker punch
Maybe I'm growing up
From the shoes on my feet
To the stench in my mouth
I'll remain transparent
And while you speak in codes, I'll speak in spirit
I tasted, I did that, now I'm hooked
The lyrics of Embodyment's "One Less Addiction" describe the internal struggle of a person trying to overcome their addiction. The singer of the song confesses to always falling for the "sucker punch," indicating that they have tried to overcome their addiction in the past but failed. The mention of the purple sky and the naked trees clawing for the air create a bleak and desolate atmosphere which reflects the singer's emotional state. Despite this, the singer acknowledges that this struggle is necessary, likening it to a purchase that can be refunded if not satisfactory. This line shows that the singer believes that this struggle is worth undertaking, even if it is difficult.
The second half of the song shows the singer reflecting on the changes they have undergone as they fight their addiction. From the shoes on their feet to the stench in their mouth, everything about them is changing. However, the singer vows to remain transparent, indicating that they will not try to hide their struggles. The final line, "I tasted, I did that, now I'm hooked," reveals that the singer is now addicted to overcoming their addiction. This final sentiment establishes the song's central message: overcoming addiction is an ongoing process that requires constant vigilance, but that process is ultimately worth it.
