Their debut album, "Embrace the Eternal", showed a change in style as Embodyment added elements of metalcore to their death metal sound (Embrace the Eternal is one of the earliest deathcore records). "Embrace the Eternal" featured re-makes of the songs "Golgotha" and "Religious Infamy", which were originally from their demos, as well as guest vocals by Bruce Fitzhugh, vocalist for seminal Christian metal band Living Sacrifice.
After the departure of Kris McCaddon on vocals, Embodyment welcomed Sean Corbray as vocalist and recorded "''The Narrow Scope of Things''", released in 2000. This album was the band's first step away from any of the heavier metal subgenres. Instead, their sound on the album was adjusted to alternative metal with hard rock influences and was the first album to feature actual singing and some screamed vocal parts rather than any form of death vocals.
Embodyment next released Hold Your Breath in 2001, an album which saw the removal of all screamed vocals and yet more slight shift away from the remaining metal influence there had been on "The Narrow Scope of Things". Their last album, "''Songs for the Living''", released under [[XS Records]] in 2002, completed the band's transition to alternative/indie rock and was originally made as an industry demo meant to get the band signed to a major label.
Embodyment later disbanded in early 2004 to the disappointment of loyal fans.

Religious Infamy
Embodyment Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Perception of reality is destroyed
Blinded submission, consumption with reason,
Brainwashed, corrupted and controlled
Oppressed slaves to your aggression, driven
Absolute control is a must
The life you once new imagination victims of one enemy
New is all you know old is forgotten
Bonded by hate break the chains of your spiritual state
What you seek is the truth in the darkness nothing is pure
Once you see what they hide you are the one they truly despise
Born again into a life without conformity
Innocent lives brought into strife imbed impurity
The planted seeds it's roots will grow in which by means to feed
Uplift the roots regain your soul declare your right to live
To fit scripture in the end will be their own demise
False religion I despise new age never fastens it's grip on me
Predictions of falsehood wallow in the flames
As you watch your false prophets die
I will never leave my doctrine
The truth shall set you free
Fallow unto me there is truth in my deception
False reality truth surfaced need for correction
Religious infamy turn away it will set you free
Bonded by hate break the chains of your spiritual state
What you seek is the truth in the darkness nothing is pure
Once you see what they hide you are the one they truly despise
The lyrics to the song Religious Infamy by Embodyment are a scathing criticism of organized religion and its manipulative tactics. The opening line, "Your individual erodes doing saying what you're told," suggests that people have lost their individuality and are blindly following what they are told to do by religious leaders. The next two lines, "Perception of reality is destroyed Blinded submission, consumption with reason," imply that religion has brainwashed people and destroyed their sense of reality, causing them to blindly submit to its teachings.
The following lines, "Oppressed slaves to your aggression, driven Absolute control is a must," suggest that religion seeks to control every aspect of people's lives, and that those who do not comply are oppressed, enslaved, and punished. The line "The life you once knew imagination victims of one enemy" could be interpreted as religion stifling creativity and imagination for the sake of conformity.
The chorus, "Religious infamy turn away it will set you free Bonded by hate break the chains of your spiritual state What you seek is the truth in the darkness nothing is pure Once you see what they hide you are the one they truly despise," urges listeners to reject organized religion and seek the truth for themselves, suggesting that religion hides the truth and despises those who seek it.

Thanks for this. It is nostalgia city over here. Writing some lyrics of my own because I can't handle the insanity by which we're surrounded and this is some great old school metal for inspiration! Used to have this stuff on cassette long back in the day. I will say the song is ironically titled given how reality turned out. :)
