Their debut album, "Embrace the Eternal", showed a change in style as Embodyment added elements of metalcore to their death metal sound (Embrace the Eternal is one of the earliest deathcore records). "Embrace the Eternal" featured re-makes of the songs "Golgotha" and "Religious Infamy", which were originally from their demos, as well as guest vocals by Bruce Fitzhugh, vocalist for seminal Christian metal band Living Sacrifice.
After the departure of Kris McCaddon on vocals, Embodyment welcomed Sean Corbray as vocalist and recorded "''The Narrow Scope of Things''", released in 2000. This album was the band's first step away from any of the heavier metal subgenres. Instead, their sound on the album was adjusted to alternative metal with hard rock influences and was the first album to feature actual singing and some screamed vocal parts rather than any form of death vocals.
Embodyment next released Hold Your Breath in 2001, an album which saw the removal of all screamed vocals and yet more slight shift away from the remaining metal influence there had been on "The Narrow Scope of Things". Their last album, "''Songs for the Living''", released under [[XS Records]] in 2002, completed the band's transition to alternative/indie rock and was originally made as an industry demo meant to get the band signed to a major label.
Embodyment later disbanded in early 2004 to the disappointment of loyal fans.

Winter Kiss
Embodyment Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Rebuke the structure
Kiss on the hand
Fades to god's will
I would kill to see your face
Lady in red
Watch your surroundings
I'm going out on a limb
Three weeks of torture brought me here
Pass the moons
Reject friendly envy
More on desire than principal
Wish you here...
The lyrics of Embodyment's song Winter Kiss seem to be about a person yearning for someone they love but are unable to be with. The first few lines could perhaps refer to waiting in a lobby for the person, with the mention of stairs symbolizing the hurdle that needs to be overcome in order to be with them. The line "rebuke the structure" implies that the singer may not be pleased with the current circumstances that keep them away from their loved one. The next line, "Kiss on the hand/Fades to god's will" could mean that despite their desire to be with this person, they may have to accept that it's out of their control.
The next verse goes on to express the desperation of the singer to see the face of their loved one, to the point where they would kill for it. The "Lady in red" might be a reference to the object of their affection, perhaps indicating that she is the one wearing a red dress. The line "I'm going out on a limb" could mean that the singer is taking a risk in pursuing this person, going beyond their comfort zone.
The last verse talks about how the singer has been tormented for three weeks, possibly while separated from this person. They reject "friendly envy", which could mean they resent people who are able to be with their loved ones when they can't. The phrase "more on desire than principal" suggests that their desire for this person is stronger than any moral principles they might have. Overall, the theme of the song seems to be about the overwhelming desire to be with someone, even when it might not be possible.
