Sandé made her singing career debut in 2009 after appearing on the track she wrote for Chipmunk's first debut single, "Diamond Rings". The single charted at No. 6 on the UK Singles Charts, making it Chipmunk and Sandé's first ever Top 10 Hit. She later appeared on another single singing guest vocals, after collaborating with Wiley on his comeback single "Never Be Your Woman", the single charted at number-eight on the UK Singles Charts becoming Sandé's second consecutive Top 10 Single.
Sandé decided against using the name Adele Sandé, due to Adele's growing success, so used her middle name instead. She revealed: "I changed it as soon as Adele came out. I just thought, 'You've kind of taken the [name] now', so I went with my middle name. She was just getting bigger and bigger, so I thought I just really need it."
A former medical student, Sandé appeared as a guest vocalist on Professor Green's 2011 UK #1 single Read All About It and soon went on to achieve her own chart success with her first solo release Heaven, which debuted in the UK Singles Chart at #2. Her debut album Our Version of Events was released on 12th February 2012. The album includes the singles Next To Me, Daddy and My Kind Of Love.
Before branching out on her own Sandé had already had a taste of chart success having collaborated with rapper Chipmunk on his song Diamond Rings, and then with Wiley on Never Be Your Woman. She has also written for or collaborated with artists including Let Go, Let It Rain, Susan Boyle and Cheryl Cole.
In a major feature in their Saturday Review paper, The Times declared Emeli Sandé "The Voice of 2012". The New York Times said “Ms. Sandé has a perspective-altering voice, clear and brassy and weapons-grade”. Fellow artists have also proclaimed their admiration, including Alicia Keys, “I just love her style and her flow – super raw.”, and Adele, "How incredible is she?".
Our Version of Events is the UK's biggest selling debut album of 2012.
Sandé appeared at the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. She performed Abide with Me

Daddy
Emeli Sandé Lyrics

You got your family back and you got your smile
And you promised your sister that you'd never go back again
But friends keep telling you what he did last night
How many girls he kissed, how many he liked
And you try to remember that there's no way you could ever be friends
You're looking like you really like him, like him
And now you're feeling like you miss him, miss him
You're speaking like you really love him, love him
And now you're dancing like you need him, need him
Put it in your pocket don't tell anyone I gave ya
It can be the one you run to, the one that saves ya
It can be your daddy daddy if you take it gladly gladly
Daddy daddy
He kissed you on the lips and opened your eyes
You had to catch your breath, got such a surprise
And you always forgot how it feels to live in his lies
He pulled you closer, said he'll never let go
You couldn't trust him but you never said no
In that moment he made you forgot how it feels when he's gone
But now you're
You're looking like you really like him, like him
But now you're feeling like you miss him, miss him
You're speaking like you really love him, love him
And now you're dancing like you need him, need him
Put it in your pocket don't tell anyone I gave ya
It can be the one you run to, the one that saves ya
It can be your daddy daddy if you take it gladly gladly
Daddy daddy
You're looking like you really like him, like him
(I can kinda like him)
And now you're feeling like you miss him, miss him
(I kinda miss him)
You're looking like you really love him, love him
(And now you love him)
And now you're dancing like you need him, need him
(Need him)
Put it in your pocket don't tell anyone I gave ya
It can be the one you run to, the one that saves ya
It can be your daddy daddy if you take it gladly gladly
Daddy daddy
Put it in your pocket don't tell anyone I gave ya
It can be the one you run to, the one that saves ya
It can be your daddy daddy if you take it gladly gladly
Daddy daddy
The song "Daddy" by Emeli Sandé revolves around the internal conflict of a woman who has left a toxic relationship but finds herself drawn back to it. This is portrayed through the lyrics as the woman tries to remind herself of the pain she endured while in the relationship, but still finds herself longing for him. She is conflicted between her logical understanding that she should not return to the relationship and the emotional pull that he has on her. Despite the warnings and advice from her friends and family, she cannot shake off the hold that he has on her.
The chorus "put it in your pocket don't tell anyone I gave ya" suggests that she is holding onto a memory or a gift that her ex has given her, something that she cannot let go of. The metaphorical reference of calling him "daddy daddy" suggests that she is seeking a sense of security and love, which she might not have had while growing up.
Overall, this song is a reflection of the struggles faced by many people who have experienced a toxic relationship, and how the memories of it can continue to haunt them long after it's over.

@iamshredzz
i have been listening to this track since it was released and here i still am in 2022 appreciating it just as much. for some reason it drenches me in emotions but i still listen to it. its as raw as you can get. naughty boy has composed a ridiculously heavy backing track. the whole thing is a masterpiece.
@yellow5350
I can't believe I just found this song, beautiful.
Emeli Sande - "It signifies the one thing you keep going back to. People who are quite artistic usually get obsessive over very small things that aren't really conducive to what they need to do."
@naviitaramro3474
Then daum I must be artistic cause I obsess over small things but then get bored easily.
@personalpersonal9202
Still rocking with this song 7.5 years later. It’s captivating and electric.
