He was a pupil of Franz Liszt and one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation, emphasizing the original Liszt approach to pianism as well as a strong Romantic approach to a musical technique that demanded a total command of the keyboard in what was known as the Liszt School of piano.
Some of his pupils continued on to successful concert careers including Webster Aitken, Stefan Askenase, Robert Goldsand, Ignace Hilsberg, Maryla Jonas, Lubka Kolessa, Elly Ney, Ozan Marsh, Dario Raucea, and Marie Aimée Varro.
He wrote piano concertos, piano sonatas, concert études, piano pieces and Lieder.

Very nice . . . And you're absolutely right about the end!

Oh My god, he was just one year the junior of Chopin (1810 Birthday). He lived through the same early XIX century years as Chopin. For some reason I thought he was next generation after chopin, Not so. Here is maybe one of the biggest clue of playing style of Chopin's era. Soulful and poetic.

@David Greene I agree, and there's also Google. But ya, I wouldn't think that someone over 100 years old would even be able to play with feeling because they'd need to use their weight on the keys to generate the sound they want with perfect technique. Also, I don't think people lived to 130 back then, or anywhere close.

If you read carefully, the birth in 1811 was Franz Liszt. Think for a moment - someone born in 1811 would have been more than 100 years old at the time this was recorded. Sauer's dates are given beneath his photo.
