Sunny Road
Emiliana Torrini Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wrote you this
I hope you got it safe
It's been so long
I don't know what to say
I've traveled 'round
Through deserts on my horse
But jokes aside
I want to come back home
You know that night
I said I had to go
You said you'd meet me
On the sunny road

It's time, meet me on the sunny road
It's time, meet me on the sunny road

I never married
Never had those kids
I loved too many
Now heaven's closed its gates.
I know I'm bad
To jump on you like this
Some things don't change
My middle name's still 'Risk'
I know that night
So long long time ago
Will you still meet me
On the sunny road

It's time, meet me on the sunny road
It's time, meet me on the sunny road

Well, this is it
I'm running out of space
Here is my address
And number just in case.
This time as one
We'll find which way to go

Now come and meet me
On the sunny road

Overall Meaning

The Emiliana Torrini's song "Sunny Road" tells the story of a person who travels the world but still yearns to come home. In the first verse, she talks about writing a letter to someone she has not seen in a long time. She expresses her struggle to find the right words to say since it has been a while. She then talks about how she has traveled through deserts on her horse, but despite the adventure, she still wants to come back home. She recalls a night when she had to leave, and the person she was addressing the letter to promised to meet her on a "sunny road."

In the second verse, Torrini talks about how she never married and never had children because she loved too many people, and heaven has closed its gates. She admits that she is bad for reaching out unannounced, but some things don't change, and her middle name is still 'risk.' She then asks if the person she addressed in the letter will still meet her on the sunny road as they promised a long time ago.

The chorus then comes in, where she repeatedly urges the person to meet her on the sunny road. Finally, in the third verse, Torrini gives the person her address and phone number and asks that they come and meet her so they can both decide which way to go.

My brother used to love this song.

I'd forgotten about this album.
Aprx 15yr ago I lost everything in a house fire. I'm still rediscovering my old music collection.
It's like running into old friends, some bring joy, some bring pain. They all bring memories.
It's a wonderful journey, life.

Omg, if I can help you to look for those lost songs count me in, I know a lot of alternative music like this one!

Michael Husada

There was one time in mid/late 2000s when every organic food shop I go to is playing this song.

Such a beautiful song. I love her album too. It’s great to rediscover it.

Artem Khasanov

Всякий раз, когда слушаю эту песню, подступает комок к горлу и слёзы наворачиваются. Задевает какие-то очень глубокие струнки..
