To stroll long 5th avenue
When this familiar world is through
Will you still be mine
When cabs don’t drive around the park
No windows light the summer dark
When love has lost its secret spark
When moonlight on the hudson’s not romancy
And spring no longer turns a young man’s fancy
when glamour girls have lost their charms
And sirens just mean false alarms
When lovers heed no call arms
Will you still be mine
The lyrics of Emilie-Claire Barlow's song "Will You Still Be Mine" talk about the longevity of love. The song narrates the singer's fears of what might happen in the future when the excitement of the city wears off, and whether their partner will still be there for them. Throughout the song, the singer poses the question "Will you still be mine?" to their lover, wondering if their affection will last beyond the glamorous sights and sounds of New York City.
The first verse describes how lovers won't have any place to rendezvous, no more walks along 5th Avenue when the familiarity of the world as they know it ends. In the second verse, the singer poses the question whether their lover will still be there for them when the traditional romantic activities of the city stop, such as cabs not driving around the park, no windows lighting the dark summer nights. The final verse shows the singer hoping if their lover will still love them when the glamour of the city, the charms of glamour girls, and the call of sirens stop.
Overall, the song shows the singer's fear of whether their lover will still love them in the future when the environment they knew no longer holds the same charm or excitement.
