Growing up in Malibu, California, she began learning the violin at the age of four and left regular school five years later with the goal of becoming a world-class violinist; she practiced eight or nine hours a day and read a wide range of literature. Progressing to writing her own music, she studied under various teachers and went to Indiana University, which she left over issues regarding the relationship between classical music and the appearance of the performer. Through her own independent label Traitor Records, Autumn debuted with her classical album On a Day: Music for Violin & Continuo, followed by the release in 2003 of her album Enchant.
She appeared in singer Courtney Love's backing band on her 2004 America's Sweetheart tour and returned to Europe. She released the 2006 album Opheliac with the German label Trisol Music Group. In 2007, she released Laced/Unlaced; the re-release of On a Day... appeared as Laced with songs on the electric violin as Unlaced. She later left Trisol to join New York-based The End Records in 2009 and release Opheliac in the United States, where previously it had only been available as an import. Currently she is on tour to promote her newest album Fight Like A Girl. She played the role of Painted Doll in Darren Lynn Bousman's 2012 film The Devil's Carnival.

Reeling in your crooked smile
Why did I turn to you
I only
Wanted a hand to pour my heart into
And now I
Bumb my grin through anouther night
Lose my my mind in anouther fight
I only
Gave you a chance
To prove the rumors true
And now I'm
Paying with my
Paying with my life
I'm paying with my life
My life
My life
So let the record show
That you murdered me
In your coldest blood
With your
Own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Working life like a burlesque show
Get them off
And they'll let you go
Why did I turn to you
I only
Turned out to be
One more girl you slew
And now I
Bumb my grind
In anouther
Lose my mind
In anouther
Why
Why
Why
Why
I only
Gave you a chance
To prove the rumors true
And now
I'm paying with my
Paying with my life
I'm paying with my life
My life
My life
So let the record show
That you murdered me
In your coldest blood
With your own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Your jelouse
Oh
Your jelouse
Why
It's a simple excuse
For a complex crime
So write this on your soul
Or don't waste my time
If I'm going down
Then I'm going down good
I'm going down
Then I'm going down clean
I'm going down
Then I'm going
The prettiest broken girl
That you've ever seen
If I'm going down
Then I'm going down good
I'm going down
Then I'm going down clean
I'm going down
Then I'm going
The prettiest wretched whore
That you've ever seen
And while I breath
I know I've got no way
To prove my end
And so you'll walk away
Nope! wrong again
So let the record show
That you murderd me
In your coldest blood
With your own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Your jelouse
Oh
Your jelouse
Why
It's a simple excuse
For a complex crime
So write this on your soul
And let it show
That you murderd me
In your coldest blood
With your own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Your jelouse
Oh
Your jelouse
Why
It's a simple excuse
For a complex crime
So write this on your soul
Or don't waste my time
In Emilie Autumn's song "Let The Record Show," the lyrics focus on a woman who is reflecting on a past relationship with a man who she now sees as a murderer. The song contains themes centered around betrayal, jealousy, and violence within a romantic relationship. The opening lines, "Turning tricks with absent guile, reeling in your crooked smile," suggest that the man was untrustworthy and deceitful. The woman expresses confusion and remorse about why she turned to him, seeking companionship and support. She gave him a chance to prove the rumors were true, but instead, he murdered her.
The chorus repeats the line "let the record show that you murdered me in your coldest blood with your own two hands," emphasizing the violent and deliberate nature of the man's actions. The woman acknowledges that others may not understand or believe what happened, but she wants the record to show the truth. She challenges the man's jealousy, suggesting that it's a simple excuse for a complex crime, and implores him to write the truth on his soul.
The lyrics of "Let The Record Show" convey a powerful message about the dangers of toxic relationships and the importance of speaking up against violence. The song has resonated with audiences as a powerful anthem for survivors, with its dark and haunting tone, and its poignant lyrics.
