Growing up in Malibu, California, she began learning the violin at the age of four and left regular school five years later with the goal of becoming a world-class violinist; she practiced eight or nine hours a day and read a wide range of literature. Progressing to writing her own music, she studied under various teachers and went to Indiana University, which she left over issues regarding the relationship between classical music and the appearance of the performer. Through her own independent label Traitor Records, Autumn debuted with her classical album On a Day: Music for Violin & Continuo, followed by the release in 2003 of her album Enchant.
She appeared in singer Courtney Love's backing band on her 2004 America's Sweetheart tour and returned to Europe. She released the 2006 album Opheliac with the German label Trisol Music Group. In 2007, she released Laced/Unlaced; the re-release of On a Day... appeared as Laced with songs on the electric violin as Unlaced. She later left Trisol to join New York-based The End Records in 2009 and release Opheliac in the United States, where previously it had only been available as an import. Currently she is on tour to promote her newest album Fight Like A Girl. She played the role of Painted Doll in Darren Lynn Bousman's 2012 film The Devil's Carnival.
Liar

I want to be your faithful one
I want to show you all the beauty
You don't even know you hold
I'm hurting you for your own good
I'd die for you, you know I would
I'd give up all my wealth
To buy you back the soul you never sold
I want to mix our blood
And put it in the ground
So you can never leave
I want to earn your trust
Your faith, your heart
You'll never be deceived
Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar
Liar
I want to heal you pretty sweet
I'll throw rose petals at your feet
I'll spend eternity
Comparing all my poetry to yours
I want to see love through your eyes
You'll never have to compromise
I'd give up all my fame
To fight your demons and your bloody wars
I want to mix our blood
And put it in the ground
So you can never leave
I want to earn your trust
Your faith, your heart
You'll never be deceived
Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar

I want to see your pain
Are you suffering?
I want your suffering
I want your beautiful suffering
I want to see your pain
Are you suffering?
I want your suffering
I want your beautiful suffering
I want to see your pain
Are you suffering?
I want your suffering
I want your beautiful suffering
I want it
I want it
I want to mix our blood
And put it in the ground
So you can never leave
I want to earn your trust
Your faith, your heart
You'll never be deceived
I want to mix our blood
And put it in the ground
So you can never leave
I want to earn your trust
Your faith, your heart
You'll never be deceived

The lyrics of Emilie Autumn's song "Liar" seems to be about the singer's desires to possess and control the object of their affection. The line "I'm hurting you for your own good" suggests that the singer is willing to hurt their lover in order to make them better. This is a common trope in abusive relationships where the abuser justifies their behavior as being for the victim's own good. The singer wants to earn their lover's trust but also wants to mix their blood so they can never leave. This seems like a gruesome way to hold on to someone forever. The repetition of the word "liar" at the chorus seems to suggest that the singer does not trust their lover and accuses them of lying. This may also suggest that the singer may be projecting their own dishonesty on their lover.
The lyrics of this song can be read as a cautionary tale about toxic relationships, where one partner tries to control the other under the guise of love. The lyrics are disturbing and unsettling, but it's a commentary on how some people in abusive relationships justify their behavior by saying that they're doing it out of love. The singer may genuinely believe that they're doing the right thing, but in reality, their desire for control is dangerous.
