Growing up in Malibu, California, she began learning the violin at the age of four and left regular school five years later with the goal of becoming a world-class violinist; she practiced eight or nine hours a day and read a wide range of literature. Progressing to writing her own music, she studied under various teachers and went to Indiana University, which she left over issues regarding the relationship between classical music and the appearance of the performer. Through her own independent label Traitor Records, Autumn debuted with her classical album On a Day: Music for Violin & Continuo, followed by the release in 2003 of her album Enchant.
She appeared in singer Courtney Love's backing band on her 2004 America's Sweetheart tour and returned to Europe. She released the 2006 album Opheliac with the German label Trisol Music Group. In 2007, she released Laced/Unlaced; the re-release of On a Day... appeared as Laced with songs on the electric violin as Unlaced. She later left Trisol to join New York-based The End Records in 2009 and release Opheliac in the United States, where previously it had only been available as an import. Currently she is on tour to promote her newest album Fight Like A Girl. She played the role of Painted Doll in Darren Lynn Bousman's 2012 film The Devil's Carnival.

Emilie Autumn Lyrics

Did you know sometimes it frightens me
When you say my name and I can't see you
Will you ever learn to materialize before you speak
Impetuous boy, if that's what you really are
How many centuries since you've climbed a balcony
Or do you do this every night with someone else
You tell me that you never leave
Why is it me you've chosen to follow
Did you like the way I look when I am sleeping
Was my hair more fun to tangle
Are my dreams more entertaining
Do you laugh when I'm complaining that I'm all alone
Where were you when I searched the sea
For a friend to talk to me
In a year where will you be
Is it enough for you to steal into my mind
Filling up my page with music written in my hand
You know I'll take the credit for I must have made you come to me somehow
But please try to close the curtains when you leave at night
Or I'll have to find someone to stay and warm me
Will you always attend my midnight tea parties
As long as I set your place
If one day your sugar sits untouched
Will you have gone forever
Would you miss me in a thousand years
When you will dry another's tears
But you say you'll never leave me
And I wonder if you'll have the decency
To pass through my wall to the next room
While I dress for dinner
But when I'm stuck in conversation
With stuffed shirts whose adoration
Hurts my ears, where are you then
Can't you cut in when I dance with other men
It's too late not to interfere with my life
You've already made me a most unsuitable wife
For any man who wants to be the first his bride has slept with
And you can't just fly into people's bedrooms
Then expect them to calmly wave goodbye
You've changed the course of history
And didn't even try
Where are you now
Standing behind me
Taking my hand
Come and remind me
Who you are
Have you traveled far
Are you made of stardust too
Are the angels after you
Tell me what I am to do
But until then I'll save your side of the bed
Just come and sing me to sleep
The lyrics to Emilie Autumn's song, Poem: Ghost, portray the relationship between the singer and a spirit that haunts her. The singer is both fascinated and frightened by this entity that invades her personal space and confronts her even when she can't see him. The lyrics delve into the complexities of this relationship, as the singer is alternately wooed and repelled by the spirit's presence.
The singer wonders if this ghost is a product of her own imagination and inquires about his mode of existence- impetuous boy, if that’s what you really are. The spirit's obsessive behavior is also highlighted in the fact that he follows the singer everywhere, even attending her midnight tea parties. The singer is both comforted and agitated by the spirit's presence in her life, as she wonders why she was chosen to be followed.
The lyrics of the song contain a sense of wistfulness and longing for the spirit to materialize, for the singer to have a tangible experience with this entity. The final lines of the song reveal the hopelessness of the singer's situation, who waits in vain for the entity to return and soothe her to sleep.

Her poems are...indescribable. She knows how to tug on the heartstrings as well as she plucks the violin.

I love that part when she says "if you could only know how many times each day, i picture you in my mind, the look upon your face, when you begin to laugh, or how your eyes look sad" ..

I love this. It describes my current situation, which is leaving me emotionally drained. It seems to me that whatever I am feeling, Emilie has some kind of poetry or song that makes me feel like I'm not alone. Well done Emilie! And thank you for posting this video. ^-^
